The Tactical Communications Systems Department within the Space and Airborne Systems Center is the primary source of VHF/UHF SATCOM Tactical Radio (TR) equipment to the Army and USAF. This team, based at Fort Wayne, is responsible for the Architecture, Specification, Development and Analysis of Mission Critical equipment in support of over the horizon mission communications. Some aspects of this work are classified.

The System Engineering group’s activities include; 1) developing coherent product specifications from multiple disparate source documents, 2) performing analysis of signals in space, receivers and transmitters, 3) developing simulations and analyzing the performance/impact of fielded equipment, 4) managing the requirements baseline and 5) ensuring all requirements are met.

This position is to plan, lead and conduct system/product requirements development, system/product design, system/product development, oversight of system/product implementation and system/product integration and performance verification of various military ground and airborne communication products.

The candidate must have a working knowledge of legacy military ground and airborne radio products, an understanding of digitally defined radio products, modularity and design reuse, and how to apply a common solution across a family of products. The candidate must have system design experience in commercial or military platform communication systems. The candidate must have a strong working knowledge of product development and implementation techniques that comply with program applicable military standards and publications. The candidate must have prior experience as a Systems Engineer, requirements development and management, or system/product integration, verification and validation. The candidate will be responsible for generating derived requirements to system products and components, documenting the design decision resulting in the defined architecture and implementation, test methodology assignments, and test procedure development which will include requirements validation and verification through inspection, analysis, demonstration, test, and system/product certifications. This candidate will be responsible for interfacing with internal customers to address system operations, system/product design concepts, and system/product performance for both new and existing capabilities.

Required Skills:

  • Minimum 6 years of experience in Hardware or Systems Engineering.
  • Communications products design and development.
  • Engineering experience on requirements development or system platform integration and verification.
  • Experience within a structured Systems Engineering process environment including a task oriented, value based management system.
  • Experience with and has implemented designs compliant with DO-160 or MIL-STD-461 and MIL-STD-464 EMI/EMC standards.
  • Experience with and has implemented designs compliant with DO-170 or MIL-STD-810 Airborne Radio Environmental standards.
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will need a U.S. Security Clearance within 1 year of start date.
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will require the ability to access US only data systems.

Desired Skills:
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance or recently submitted application.
  • Experience with military radio design and development.
  • Experience with and has implemented designs compliant with MIL-STD-704
  • Working knowledge of digital waveforms, algorithms, RF signals, and cosite mitigation.
  • Knowledge of defense/aerospace communication products, technologies, and processes.

B.S. in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or related discipline
