Job Description:
The Mechanical Subsystems Directorate (MSD) is seeking a Senior Principal Mechanical Engineer that is responsible for leading mechanical system and subsystem products designed and produced by Raytheon Missile Systems. Candidate will be responsible for leading MSD and other Engineering discipline teams to develop, analyze, test and produce components and vehicles that meet system requirements (environmental loads, performance, reliability and cost) and flow down appropriate requirements to mechanical sub-systems and suppliers. Program responsibilities will range from concept architecture and establishing development program scope and schedule, enabling in phase learning through early production cycles, Verification testing, Technical Data Package (TDP) release, to production non-conformance evaluation and maintaining the design integrity during the production life cycle.

The candidate will be expected to effectively present their team’s work products, including design, analysis, test and production details, in program and customer level reviews. The candidate will have proven experience leading cross discipline teams of 10+ personnel.

As a Senior Principal Engineer, the individual is expected to function without appreciable direction or supervision exercising considerable latitude in defining terms and conditions of deliverables in collaboration across Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, and Quality, for both themselves and their team.
Candidates should possess and articulate a proven record of delivered performance through data driven decision making, risk and opportunity management, and systems thinking, to ensure delivered product performance relative to the Raytheon brand name. Additionally, a Senior Principal Engineer is expected to promote a teaching culture in developing new talent through intentional engagement of early career and mid-level engineers to share knowledge, lessons learned, and best practices.

As a team leader your tasks will include:

  • Influencing cross discipline system architecture in pre-proposal and proposal phases
  • Leading team development and design activities of system and subsystem components
  • Guiding the development of the engineering personnel in technical competencies
  • Reducing design cycle time and development costs for system and subsystem component development
  • Briefing senior Raytheon personal and customers
  • Collaborating across Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, and Quality
  • Interface directly with Office of the Chief Engineer and Program Management Office

Required Experience and Skills:

  • A minimum of 10 years' applicable experience focused on design or analysis, or fabrication, or integration and testing of system and subsystem components
  • A minimum of 2 years leading 10+ multidisciplinary personnel on design and system integration of components and systems
  • Experience demonstrating the ability to integrate complex environments to achieve the airframe/system optimal system performance
  • Experience demonstrating the ability to establish cost effective methods for testing and validation of an vehicle designs
  • Experience generating proposals for vehicle development
  • Experience within aerospace industry
  • US Citizen

Desired Experience and Skills:
Master’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering or other applicable engineering degree
  • 12 plus years' applicable experience focused on design or analysis, or fabrication, or integration and testing of system and subsystem components
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities from multiple sources
  • Strong interpersonal skills working in a team environment with positive interaction
  • Demonstrated ability to put forth and drive technical execution plans
  • Excellent communication skills; both verbal and written
  • Security Clearance: Existing DoD Secret clearance preferred
  • Experience with and presenting to FRB, ERB, CCB, MRB, PCB, PMAB, etc.
  • Knowledgeable in government processes such as IMS, EVMS, SPI, CPI, etc.
