The Systems Design & Performance Directorate - Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC) Center is currently searching for a Senior Manager, Systems Engineering to lead its Advanced Missile Systems, Land Combat and Naval and Area Mission Defense Guidance Design and Performance Department.
This Department Manager will lead a department of approximately 70 GNC engineers working on programs in the following product lines
Advanced Missile Systems
Land Combat
Naval Area and Mission Defense

Major Responsibilities include:

  • Lead and manage the Guidance Design and Performance Department with major responsibilities including:
  • Program execution of guidance system design (guidance system requirements, trade studies, guidance laws, track files, target selectivity, electronic protection) and performance assessment related tasks
  • Active involvement in peer reviews, design reviews, gate reviews and test reviews
  • Employee performance management to include goal setting, career guidance, performance feedback, compensation, ranking & rating, and employee training & development
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition to grow the department to support business needs through appropriate hiring and staffing
  • Identify and develop GNC capability and new business in applications and technologies that are key to RMS growth, including core business areas and adjacent markets
  • Create and execute strategic plan for guidance system technology, tools and process development
  • Develop partnerships across Raytheon, industry, and academia to facilitate strategic capability development
  • Guidance system point of contact for Product Line Chief Engineers, Program Chief Engineers, Program Managers and Design Centers
  • Lead the Department in the achievement of the GNC Center, SD&P, RMS Engineering, and Business goals
  • Collaborate with the GNC Leadership Team supporting the business activities within and important to GNC and SD&P
  • Active participation on SD&P extended leadership and engineering LT
  • Champion leadership, respect, ethics and diversity initiatives within the organization

Required Education, Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or other related STEM disciplines
  • Minimum 14+ years in engineering experience to include leadership roles with strong technical and management background and the following:
    • Highly knowledgeable of guidance design, tools and associated technologies (Guidance Laws, State Estimation, System Performance) subsystem requirements definition and verification, algorithm design and implementation, guidance hardware/software development and verification, hardware testing, guidance performance evaluation.
    • Multi-discipline engineering background providing knowledge of related technologies and products both within the GNC Center and outside of it (Aerodynamics, Autopilot, Navigation, embedded software, RF and EO seekers, systems engineering and requirements flowdown)
    • Effective leadership presence during group and individual interactions
    • Ability to provide guidance, coaching and direction to Section Heads
  • Recent past experience / knowledge of proposal development and bidding process
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to state and execute a clear and achievable vision for department

Desired Education, Skills and Experience:
  • MS or Ph.D. in above-mentioned fields
  • Experience and expertise in AMS, LWS or NAMD programs (Including current security clearance)
  • Experience in development or capture of new business or research
  • Experience in initial development concept studies and systems architecture
  • Candidate must be able to obtain access to proprietary programs (existing access preferred)
  • Strong judgment and decision making abilities
  • Able to effectively work multiple tasks and priorities
  • Excellent follow through and persistence
