He/She will serve under the guidance of the Medical Maintenance Officer from whom assignments are received in the form of Work Orders, verbal direction, rough sketch or blueprint. He/She will have full responsibility for independently performing technical phases of the work and for carrying assignments through to completion.

The Medical Equipment Repairer provides for the safe and reliable operation of laboratory equipment and systems. As a Medical equipment repairer the employee will inspect, install, troubleshoot, maintain, test, calibrate, adjust, and repair a wide variety of medical and laboratory equipment. Typical examples of equipment serviced include ultracentrifuges, ultrasonic equipment, , labware washers, necropsy equipment, temperature sensitive monitoring devices, laboratory refrigerator and freezers. They maintain and repair chemical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, vacuum, suction and pressure systems which may include water, steam, air, gas under pressure, and piped gas lines associated with equipment serviced. Medical equipment repairers determine nature and extent of repairs required by checking equipment for malfunctions, requiring the tracing of wiring, broken or worn parts, leaks, feedback, and interference. They check voltage tolerances, amperage, power supplies, wave shape, frequency resonance, deflection time, decay curve, gain, balance, and signal sensitivity against prescribed tolerances and specifications. The repairers plan and carry out work assignments using blueprints, schematic drawings, technical manuals, wiring diagrams, liquid and air flow sheets, and other specifications. Medical equipment repairers test equipment after repair and also new equipment to assure proper functioning; conduct preventive maintenance inspection of equipment; performs acceptance inspections for new equipment; performs technical inspections for classification of equipment identified for turn in; performs periodic checks to insure that using personnel are following proper preventive maintenance procedures. Use the Defense Medical Logistics Supply Support (DMLSS) system to manage and record all equipment maintenance requirements and actions. Contractor is NOT expected to perform any proprietary maintenance required by the equipment’s manufacturer, nor to have any manufacturer-specific expertise.
Receives work assignments orally or through work orders. Independently determines the nature of trouble and extent of repairs required and completes repairs following established trade practices and procedures, using technical manuals, blueprints, sketches, wiring diagrams, liquid and air flow sheets, and other specifications. Performs operational tests after repairs have been completed or when new equipment is received to assure that equipment is operating within prescribed limits so that lives are not endangered. Completed work is reviewed for adherence to specification and accepted trade practices. Maintains records of work through the use of established automated systems.
5-8 years of related inventory management experience.
2-5 years of related experience in logistics, traffic and/or supply chain management preferred.
Skill and Knowledge:
-Biomedical Equipment Technician certification is required.
-Must have a moderate level of knowledge and skills involving mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electronic equipment and components in order to independently perform work ranging from minor repairs and adjustments to new installation. Work requires knowledge of various trades including mechanical, electrical, steam, refrigeration, plumbing and welding, and of all pertinent safety practices. Must be able to determine nature and extent of repairs necessary, materials and parts needed, plan and lay out work using work orders, sketches, blueprints, technical manuals and other specifications, and be skilled in the use of test equipment. Must be able to use a variety of power and hand tools.
-Must be capable of performing repairs to mechanical equipment such as sterilizers, centrifuges, labware washers, necropsy equipment, temperature sensitive monitoring devices, laboratory refrigerator and freezers. Must be knowledgeable of and able to select proper replacement parts, modification kits, and identifies materials, mechanisms, and components from knowledge of diagram symbols, color code descriptions and manufacturers numbers.
-Skill in utilizing electronic test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, signal generators, electrical safety analyzers; electrical test equipment such as ohmmeters, test meters; equipment such as micrometers and calipers to detect wear and misalignment of gears, cams, valves, and other mechanical parts; and seat wrenches, end pressure gauges when working on hydraulic systems.
-Ability to interpret and apply blueprints, schematic drawings, wiring diagrams, liquid and air flow sheets, technical manuals, and other specifications and makes mathematical computations, using algebraic expressions and shop formulas relating to load requirements of wiring and equipment.
Work assignments involve standing, stooping, bending, and frequently working in cramped and awkward positions for prolonged periods. Is required to continually lift objects weighing from 10 to 40 pounds and occasionally, objects weighing in excess of 40 pounds.
