Position:  866-SMC Enterprise Systems Engineer Program Task Lead Type:  Full Time Location:  Los Angeles, California

This position will work as the Program Task Lead for a team of FTI and Sub-Contractor Systems Engineers and system analysts in support of the Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC) to support the definition and implementation of the Space Warfighting Construct Vision

Act as the on-site FTI interface to senior SMC management and provide both technical and programmatic status as required.

Provide Functional Leadership for the new FTI staff in LA.  Work with Business Unit leadership to assist in growing the team and eventually building up an FTI office location in LA.

Work with all SMC capability directorates to support center level engineering tasking to support an integrated SMC Systems Engineering approach.

Identify and apply Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methods and tools to support definition and refinement of space architecture artifacts.  Identify and implement systems engineering policies, procedures and operating instructions for space and cyberspace systems.

Occasionally work with Business Unit Lead and/or FTI Business Development on identifying new opportunities both within SMC directorates as well as other El Segundo aerospace companies.

Leverage FTI small business innovation research (SBIR) analysis methods and tools to enhance engineering processes and improve rigor of Course of Action (COA) assessments Leverage FTI SBIR-developed tools to include but not limited to Integrated Cost as an Independent Variable (I-CAIV), Readiness Assessment Engine (RAE), NormNet Prognostic Health Management, Integrated Sensor Analysis Tool (I-SAT), and the Extensible Load-Adaptive Processing Service (ELAPSE).

Support SMC in the definition and refinement of requirements for space systems and the horizontal integration of technical interfaces and issues across SMC 2 letters.  Apply MBSE methods and tools to identify and update required architecture views ranging from OV, SV and TV’s.  Support COA assessment to resolve requirement and implementation issues; leverage the FTI I-CAIV tool to facilitate performance, cost, risk and schedule trade-offs. Support readiness assessments across the space system lifecycle to ensure developing technology aligns with desired maturity at key milestone reviews. Leverage the FTI RAE methodology to automate the assessment process.  Identify and track key systems engineering and architecture metrics during development, test and fielding of space systems. Leverage the FTI MPAE methodology to automate the tracking and trending of metrics.


  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain/maintain a government security clearance, TS-SCI strongly preferred
  • Minimum of 5+ years previous Space Systems acquisition experience at SMC
  • 10+ years Space Systems acquisition specializing in satellites, control and ground segment, communications systems.
  • 10+ years of Program Management and/or supervisory experience with at least 2 years in a DoD environment.
  • 15+ years actively working as System Engineer (background in Space Systems preferred to include sensors, space vehicles and ground stations).
  • Systems Engineering experience at the enterprise level preferred.
  • Previous experience at SMC is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with MBSE tools and space system architecture development
  • Familiarity with the DoD Architecture Framework (DODAF) and related architecture guidance. 
  • Experience with architecture development and requirements tracking tools such as Rational Tool Suite and DOORS.
  • Experience developing and executing test and evaluation process.
  • Experience structuring COA assessment, facilitating performance vs cost trades and conducting business case analysis (BCA).  
  • Familiarity with software configuration management processes to include source control management.
  • Familiarity with MS Excel and other MS Office tools
  • Ability to work with cross functional team (i.e. project manager, logisticians, engineers, program analyst)
  • Ability to work independently with geographically dispersed team
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
