Raytheon Space & Airborne Systems - Systems Engineering, Integration and Test (SEIT) Department has an immediate opportunity for an Open Mission Systems (OMS) Systems Engineer.

The OMS Systems Engineer will assist in the execution of a governance process to perform collaborative systems engineering to review, assess, develop, evolve, update and improve the OMS and Universal Command and Control (C2) Interface (UCI) Standards (collectively referred to as the Open Architecture (OA) Standards).

The Systems Engineer should be able to assist with addressing new domains that may drive changes to the OA Standards. The Systems Engineer shall help review the structure of the OA Standards and improve requirements as deemed necessary and ensure requirements can be verified by adopting programs. The Systems Engineer will also help with the creation and maintenance of training material for Managers, Systems Engineers, and Software Developers using the OA Standards. The Systems Engineer shall interact with industry teams adopting one or more of the OA Standards to ensure the adopting programs’ needs, schedules, risks, and priorities are understood. The Systems Engineer will also be responsible for assisting the transition of knowledge of the OA Standards to adopting programs and program engineering staff.

This position requires strong initiative, communication, and collaboration with other engineers and personnel from Raytheon, the Government, and our competitors in the industry. The position will also require the candidate to learn the OMS and UCI Standards and how to apply them to current and future programs. This position will include travel and frequent interactions with adopting programs. The Systems Engineer is accountable to the OMS Chief Engineer and OMS Program Manager.

Required Skills:

  • Minimum 6 years of familiarity in the application of an Open Architecture on an airborne weapon subsystem like Radar, EW, Communications, or Resource Management
  • Strong engineering analytical and technical writing skills, excellent verbal communication skills with ability to present data and explain results to management & customers
  • Ability to understand XML and familiar with developing, annotating, and updating XML schemas
  • Familiar with UML 2.0
  • Familiar with software architecture design principles and abstractions
  • Ability to update and maintain code developed in C++ or Java
  • U.S. Citizenship and ability to access to US only data systems
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance as of day one of employment.
  • Occasional business travel is required
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with Active (or active within past 24 months) DoD Secret Clearance

Desired Skills:
  • Strong experience in the application of an Open Architecture on an airborne weapon subsystem like Radar, EW, Communications, or Resource Management
  • Familiarity with OMS and UCI Standards
  • Familiarity with AT and Cybersecurity
  • Ability to hold a Top Secret clearance with SCI

Required Education (including major):
  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline

Desired Education (including major):
  • Master’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)


This position requires a U.S. person or the ability to obtain an Export Authorization from the appropriate government agency for non-U.S. persons.
