PURPOSE

Transforming Forensics (TF) is a national programme delivering new capabilities into policing to

enable forensic service delivery of a fully integrated forensic service that will better support policing and the wider criminal justice system, and adapt more readily to future needs.

The Head of Design will be responsible for managing and leading the design team and the delivery of design-related activities within the programme

An coherent, overall approach to design within the programme, building on the existing foundations in the work to date

Effective, fit for purpose solutions are designed by the programme, supporting Policing in the realisation of the associated benefits

Knowledge transfer to the FCN and Policing

The FCN retains sufficientn design capability for continuing delivery, particularly in the areas of capability management and evolution of the ICT-enabled services

Facilitating multi-force/agency design activities, with an approach and style that works for Policing

The design and the design experience are both favourable and effective within Policing. Realtiobships and understanding are strengthened and political negativity minimised

Assuring programme design and related decisions

Provides ‘overwatch’ and updates the SLT on status and risk.

Provides clear insights and recommendations at PRB

Ensures the DA Board meeting and governance structure is maintained

The post holder will work in a challenging and demanding role with significant travel and the requirement to work away from home on a regular basis.

The role will require agile working and also involve home working or from an operational base

The post holder will be required to be able to travel nationally utilising public transport or driving therefore should be physically capable of this duty.

Vetting clearance will need to be obtained prior to appointment of a candidate.

SC clearance and NPPV (for non police staff) vetting is required for this post owing to the sensitive nature of information to be dealt with and the agencies involved.

This role is advertised as a fixed term appointment, with the potential for it to be converted to a permanent role on or before Mar 20202

This is a national role and there is no expectation to relocate.
