Job Purpose

The Business Partner will act as the single point of contact and be responsible for all things IS related within the Corporate Development and Ventures US Businesses covering Strategy and Business Development and the future US Operating Business. Through this partnership they will be responsible for the IS strategy, architecture and roadmap for the functions they support. They will be responsible for Application Delivery for the business and be the main conduit to coordinate all other IS functions. 


The Strategy Analyst will play an active role in developing the IS and digital strategies of National Grid.  This will entail the publication of the annual strategy, aiding other IS units in building their strategies that align with the overall strategy and will help put in place structures needed to ensure that the strategies get deployed.  

Key Accountabilities

  • Act is the primary face and single point of accountability for IS for Ventures US
  • Develop strong business relationships and partner with Ventures US leaders to develop a deep business understanding and create multi-year IT plans that are aligned with the functions goals and delivered to time, quality and cost.
  • Lead development of 3-5 year IS roadmaps embedded within the business strategy
  • Responsible for annual strategic and investment plans
  • Deliver projects on time and on budget.
  • Be accountable for the business functions needs
  • Lead the priority setting, sequencing and risk management of projects and programs, resulting in a portfolio of projects and programs for the current year as well as the multi-year investments and deliverables. 
  • Responsible to develop both annual and long term financial budgets for IS.
  • Ensure regular Service Performance Reviews are held with key stakeholders to ensure IS performance is delivered in line with service expectations. Maintain awareness of IS service issues through formalized review sessions with key stakeholders, and establish metrics for publishing performance statistics to all relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensure technology ‘innovation’ on behalf of the US Operations are part of the IS Team fabric
  • Maintain process excellence through the adoption of the NG IS PEx capabilities
  • Ensure the Ventures IS opex (RTB) cost recoveries are efficient and transparent to the operational businesses
  • Ensure ‘Best Practices’ are shared collaboratively


  • Degree in Computer Science, or equivalent industry experience
  • Broad IS experience
  • Experience in a service related business, utility preferred
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in IT leadership gained at highly respected organizations known for best practices and business value. 
  • Implemented major programs for key technology or business process
  • Experience with Merger and Acquisitions preferred
  • Highly developed skills in working through major organizational change
  • Collaboration with a wide variety of internal stakeholders
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to demonstrate substantial experience of developing and improving IS services
  • Ability to communicate and co-ordinate multiple tasks simultaneously in a complex and dynamic organization, ensuring an effective balance between internally and externally facing activities
  • A proven track record in the delivery of complex and varied IS services, supporting systems and infrastructure in a multi-vendor environment
  • Technical credibility and independent judgment and decision-making responsibilities
  • Strong supplier and commercial management skills
  • Good awareness of commercial commitments and liabilities
