A data scientist (DS) serves as the central integrator of human-machine intelligence (HMI) capabilities that incorporate the following key DS skillsets: hard science domain expertise, machine learning (ML) algorithms, signal processing, cognitive computing, data architecture, and software engineering. Using domain expertise, a DS will sufficiently model and characterize data using statistical and signal processing methods to inform ML algorithm selection and configuration using a mature data architecture that seamlessly integrates into a software architecture for product implementation. In this role, the DS will continue to develop our third wave of machine intelligence (3MI) products and apply them to defense customer problems.

A strong sense of urgency, empathy, self-driven learning, and life balance are key to doing well in this role.

Required: Bachelor of Science (BS) in a hard science degree (i.e. engineering, physics, or math) with 8 yearsâ?? experience demonstrating at least 4 of the key data science skillsets including feature modeling, ML algorithm application, signal processing, cognitive computing, data architecture, or software engineering. Software skills must include C# or Java programming; database structured query language (SQL); Matlab, Octave, or R; plus scripting language in Python, Scala, PowerShell, or Bash experience. Must be capable of securing a government security clearance.

Preferred: Master of Science (MS) in a hard science degree with 6 yearsâ?? experience at least 5 of the DS skillsets. Software skills in C++, service-oriented architecture (SOA), C# object relational model (ORM), or high-performance computing (HPC) programming. Has an active department of defense clearance.

This is an IEEE grade 6 equivalent role that has technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating assignments. Plans and develops engineering projects with unique or controversial problems which impact major company programs. Involves exploration of subject area, definition of scope and selection of problems for investigation, novel concepts and approaches. Maintains liaison with individuals and units within or outside the organization, with responsibility for acting independently on technical matters. Work at this level requires extensive progressive experience. Supervision received is administrative, with assignments given in terms of general objectives and limits. Plans, organizes, and supervises the work of a staff of engineers and technicians. Evaluates progress and results obtained, recommends major changes to achieve objectives. As individual researcher or staff specialist, may be assisted on individual projects.
