Job Summary
The Custodial Supervisor provides direct and indirect administrative and technical supervision for a workforce of approximately 20-100 employees under the general direction of the Housing & Custodial Manager. The position of plans, organizes, assigns, supervises and inspects the work of custodians involved in cleaning and maintenance of buildings and facilities.
Principal Accountabilities
(Typical duties include the following, although specific duties vary by assignment or contract.)
  • Plans, organizes and coordinates custodial duties to ensure the base environment is clean.
  • Maintains inventories of supplies.
  • Promotes harmony in the department.
  • Trains assigned staff in proper cleaning methods and procedures and safety requirements.
  • Inspects the cleaning of offices, common areas, permanent and temporary housing units, hallways, restrooms, etc.
  • Maintains records and prepares reports of attendance, schedules, and various data.
  • Takes proactive steps to avoid complaints about custodial services. Addresses complaints promptly and appropriately.
  • Operates vehicles to deliver supplies, inspects areas, and picks up equipment.
  • Supervises and evaluates assigned personnel.
  • Resolves conflict.
  • Insures compliance with local and Army regulations.
  • Escorts custodial personnel as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Knowledge of the functions and operations of military commands or government agencies.
  • Knowledge of business practices and procedures plus facility planning management.
  • Excellent Supervisory, leadership, planning, decision making and scheduling skills.
  • Detail oriented with the ability to handle multiple tasks independently.
  • Effective oral, written and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of various computer applications including Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of methods, materials, practices and equipment generally used in the operation, construction, and maintenance.
  • Additional knowledge/skills may be required by contract or assignment.

Experience & Education

  • 6 year’s relatable work experience.
  • Two (2) plus year’s supervisory experience required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent. A bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • Additional experience/education may be required by contract or assignment

Physical Requirements/Working Environment

  • The work conditions are normally those of a standard office environment where there is little physical discomfort.
  • When required to perform duties outside the office environment where inclement weather may subject individual to changes in temperature and weather.
  • May be exposed to areas where hazards noise, fumes, airborne particles, electrical shock hazards and moving mechanical parts.
