The Cyber Battle Lab (CBL) is an experimentation, assessment, and IT services provider facility leveraging innovative Signal, Cyber, and EW concepts and technologies to support the warfighter and inform the requirements and acquisitions communities. The CBL conducts proponent level prototyping experimentation, informs/validates concepts and requirements determination, provides operational needs support and acquisition risk mitigation.

The Principal Engineer within the Live Experimentation Branch must be able to successfully prepare evaluation plans, identify required resources, coordinate with all participating organizations and defense industry partners, while overseeing-leading the conduct of live experiments and documenting analytical results/reports.

Principal Engineers shall possess a Secret security clearance on day one of employment.

Essential Tasks

Priority 1: Support the Army Expeditionary Warrior Experiment (AEWE) Priority 2: Support Cyber Quest

Priority 3: Support Live Experimentation technology assessments.

Specified Tasks

  • Design, build, and manage network infrastructure to support Essential Tasks.
  • Support RF Engineers, Network Engineers (UTI), and vendors to conduct network integration as required.
  • Provide advice on system deployment options.
  • Design and manage the routing and switching infrastructure for Cyber Quest and AEWE.
  • Produce and manage documentation in support of Essential Tasks.
  • Support planning and execution of exercises and experiments.
  • Support planning and operation of instrumentation equipment relating to the LTI network environment.
  • Design, build, and manage the routing environment for the LTI network as part of the Persistent Experimentation Network.
  • Any other tasks as specified by Functional or Project Lead.
  • Draft, and support the submission of, administrative and formal reports as directed.

Implied Tasks

  • Subject Matter Expert on network design and employment. (routers, switches, VoIP)
  • Subject Matter Expert on network monitoring and instrumentation tools. (Wireshark, Solarwinds, Netflow Integrator, Network Protocol Analyzer)
  • Subject Matter Expert on installation and configuration of physical network appliances.
  • Subject Matter Expert on routing protocols. (OSPF, RIP, EIGRP, BGP)
  • Subject Matter Expert on routed protocols. (TCP, UDP)
  • Manage system performance, configuration and maintenance.
  • Manage system addressing and IP network allocations in accordance with the test framework. Manage system upgrades in accordance with Government Program or OEM.
  • Maintain knowledge of new and emerging technology by undertaking technical research
  • Provide Subject Matter Expertise to the planning, training and execution phases including advisement for siting and management considerations.
  • Develop detailed design documentation to support activity execution within MS VISIO
  • Manage training liability for new and existing systems.
  • Provide advice on technology selection for AEWE and Cyber Quest.
  • Provide Subject Matter Expertise to the development and submission of Technical Reports.
  • Produce Administrative Reports for submission as directed.
