Job Description: The Special Mission Wing (SMW) Special Operations Advisory Team (SOAT) S3 Trainer-Mentor (TM) shall train operational planning processes and procedures to Afghan counterparts. Operations Officer tasks include providing train, advise, assist, and mentorship (TAAM) IAW Decree 1-3.6, 3-24, 6-22, 6-22.1, 0, 0-1, 0-3.1, 1-3, and 1-3.1. The TM will TAAM the SMW in the following: ANA values and leadership attributes; plan, coordinate, prepare for, and execute tactical tasks; synchronize functions to include the planning and orders process and continually assess the situation and execution of operations; the Military Decision Making Process (MDMP); integration of and coordination between special operations and conventional forces; assist the SMW commander in the command and control of operations; plan, coordinate, and integrate military training operations; conduct current operations planning; recommend and publish plans and orders; assess operations for the commander; manage the assessments process; and disseminate the results of operational planning, assessments, and coordination.
Required Hours: Work may include nights, holidays, and weekends on short notice. Standard will be to conduct training six (6) days per week for up to ten (10) hours per day while at OCONUS work site(s) and a standard 40 hour work week while at CONUS work sites.
The SMW S3 TM will primarily TAAM the SMW Squadron S3 and staff in areas including but not limited to, the following: operational planning, adjacent and supporting unit coordination, assisting with synchronizing the staff to support operations, and integration with conventional force operations
TM will be responsible for interacting with US, and at times, coalition force military personnel
Based on circumstances that are unique to respective work location, TM will be responsible for making on the scene decisions
The TM will be responsible for assessing how well soldiers are grasping technical advice and assistance
The S3 TM shall train and mentor the squadron on the establishment of operational policies while developing plans and estimates including training of forward-located Mission Command Packages
The S3 TM will also provide presentations, assessments, and reports as required by US military leadership in support of SMW operations
The S3 TM will review and provide input into MoD decrees as processes, procedures, and operational requirements
The S3 TM will be required to contribute regularly to the development of new concepts, techniques, and standards to integrate ASSF, including the SMW, into operations
The S3 TM has an expeditionary role and may perform Expeditionary (ETAAM) missions to support SMW

Four (4) years military rotary and/or fixed wing experience
Competent in operating a personal computer and utilizing Microsoft Office
Must possess excellent interpersonal and people skills; must be able to interact with teammates, the client, and Afghan counterparts
Must execute excellent oral and written communication skills
Must exhibit excellent leadership, organizational & project management skills
Must have the ability to plan and organize work, analyze problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data, and recognize solutions
Must possess a US Passport with at least 6 months of remaining eligibility
Able to obtain an Afghan Visa
Physical Requirements/Working Environment
Include but are not limited to the wear of body armor and helmet Personal Protective Gear, unassisted lifting and carrying of duffle bags not exceed the weight of 70 lbs per piece, and the unassisted movement over uneven terrain.
Must be willing to work and live in Afghanistan with an understanding that there could be further assignments to any location in Afghanistan based upon the needs of the U.S. Government, to include hostile and austere areas.
Must be able to attend and pass USG deployment requirements at CONUS Replacement Center (CRC), Fort Bliss, Texas or equivalent location.
Must meet the medical requirements for the position being offered as determined by a pre-employment medical screening and in accordance with published CRC and USCENTCOM medical deployment standards.
Must be able to walk or stand on level and/or inclined surfaces up to eight (8) hours per day and sit for up to three (3) hours per day.
Must be able to routinely climb / descend stairs.
Must be able to routinely grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbows / knees, and reach above / below shoulders.
Must be able to read and interpret newspaper and typewritten print.
Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear.
Employee will be required to work and live in a potentially hostile environment, at remote locations, and under austere conditions.
Employee may be required to respond to a wide variety of operational circumstances, under extreme weather conditions, within a hostile environment.
The individual may be exposed to extreme noise from aircraft, hostile fire, and other acts of aggression associated with this region.
Must comply with USCENTCOM General Order #1.
Former E7/O3 or higher with military occupational specialty 18 series or equivalent.
4 years of related work experience with 1 year of experience in operational planning at the Special Force Battalion or Group or service equivalent
Previous experience training and advising foreign military soldiers
12 months experience in Afghanistan
Secret Clearance: Must possess a current or active DoD Secret Security clearance.
Bachelor's degree from accredited school & four (4) years of related experience, OR two (2) years related experience with Master's degree. Eight (8) years of additional equivalent work experience (12 total years) may be accepted in lieu of BA/BS education requirement.
