Description:The candidate will be a member of the Aegis In-Service and Fleet Readiness Team providing technical support services to Aegis guided missile destroyers and cruisers while at sea and inport. The candidate will be responsible for providing fleet technical support of all variants of SPY-1 in-service transmitters, signal processors, and antennas. The candidate will participate in the operation/operational assessment, troubleshooting and test, repair and grooming of Aegis Weapons System elements. Although most work will be associated with USN combat and weapon system equipment, the opportunity to support other equipment/systems also exists.
The candidate will be expected to leverage preventive and corrective maintenance as training opportunities to develop and enhance US Navy sailors’ technical proficiency. The candidate must be able to work as part of a team with system engineers, computer program developers, test engineers, technicians, and customer representatives to support Aegis Weapon System (AWS) readiness and be able to provide verbal and written reports to leadership and other key functional and program organizations as required.
The candidate’s designated work location will be onboard ships in Norfolk Virginia (Naval Station and local shipyards), the LM Virginia Beach Office, in shipyards and he/she must be able to travel globally on an as-required basis to provide support onboard ships or other land based facilities as necessary. Expected travel is approximately 40+% per year including onboard forward deployed ships.
Experience with the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and operation of USN combat systems/equipment (Aegis Combat/Weapon Systems), experience as a SPY-1A, SPY-1B, SPY-1B(V), SPY-1D, SPY-1D(V) and/or SPY-1D(MOD) RADAR and signal processor technician. Familiarity and compliance with the Navy PMS (OPNAVINST 4790.4 series). Be able to perform a variety of maintenance and technical support on the SPY-1 RADAR system, integrated systems and subsystems, and software at customer and/or field locations. Be able to analyze and evaluate system performance. Maintain, test, operate, align, repair and conduct data analysis on in-service SPY-1 signal processor equipment.
Conduct testing, casualty repair, assessments, grooms, equipment modifications and upgrades on SPY-1 radar equipment. Leverage preventive and corrective maintenance as training opportunities to develop and enhance US Navy sailor technical proficiency. Ability to embark Navy ships and work at sea and inport, and in shipyards. Be able to operate independently onboard US Navy ships.
A minimum of a Final Secret clearance is required to be considered for this position.
Experience with recent baselines (SPY-1/DV, B/L 8 and 9, MMSP, BMD a plus. Fiber Optic Repair technician certification (MIL-STD-2042/MIL-STD-1678) and/or Connection/Wire Wrap certification (MIL-STD-1130C) highly desired. Excellent communication skills, good interpersonal skills (both for written and oral communications), ability to maintain effective customer relations, ability to provide onsite training of customer support personnel, ability to work across a wide range of levels of seniority from junior technicians to senior officers and senior engineers or LM managers. Experience with shipboard maintenance programs, the JFMM, continuous improvement process, and working knowledge of ACS peripheral equipment and interfaces. Intermediate level of competence with Microsoft Office (specifically Word, Excel, Power Point and Project).
