The Linux Systems Engineer is responsible for designing, testing, and integrating Linux, UNIX, and Windows systems into HQUSCENTCOM enterprise networks. Additionally, the Linux Systems Engineer will be responsible for providing Tier 3 technical support regarding the operation and maintenance of complex computer systems to DOD agencies both inside and outside the United States. Along with the aforementioned responsibilities, the Linux Systems Engineer must be proficient in base-lining server images for multiple distributions of Linux and the Solaris Operating system, maintaining software repositories using YUM, remediating Information Assurance Vulnerability Alerts (IAVA) for both Linux and UNIX systems, designing test cases for new software, and compiling/testing source for deployment in production environments.
Primary Responsibilities: The Linux Systems Engineer will perform the following activities:
Base-lining server images for multiple distributions of Linux and the Solaris Operating system
Maintaining software repositories using YUM
Remediating Information Assurance Vulnerability Alerts (IAVA) for both Linux and UNIX systems
Designing test cases for new software
Compiling/testing source for deployment in production environments.
Provide Tier 3 support for external DNS servers running UNIX.
Provide Tier 3 support Linux servers running SMTP services.
Provide Tier 3 support for C2 systems (e.g. GCCS-J or AIDE).
Support Coalition Interoperability requirements.
Provide enterprise Tier III support for computing services.
Theater computing services support for four or more networks concurrently.
Analyze and draft technical proposals for computing services requests.
Review current computing services status and architecture versus baseline requirements.
Provide technical support and guidance to deployed computer systems administrators in the AOR in support of enterprise systems interoperability and serviceability.
Coalition computer systems administration and support
Maintain computer information systems documentation.
Responsible for making operational decisions within all network and server environments associated with system/application activity and performance to ensure stability of the environment over both LAN and WAN network segments.
Expertise planning, designing and leading a variety of complex project tasks applying knowledge of network protocols, architectures and configuration changes.
Expertise identifying, implementing and directing project based software or hardware upgrades while adhering to the USCENTCOM Change Management Process.
Analyze data and provide reports and metrics as needed to support engineering requirements analysis and growth planning.
Candidate must be able to adhere to adverse schedules due to the nature of the missions supported by USCENTCOM.
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree coupled with 4+ year’s systems administration experience; OR a HS diploma coupled with 8+ year’s systems administration experience.
Active Secret clearance is required. TS/SCI clearance is preferred.
Experience managing Linux and Unix systems
Experience with Solaris OS.
Linux+ or RHCSA
