Description

Duties and responsibilities Summary:

SAIC is currently looking for Safety Engineers to support launch system SE&I activities for the Launch Enterprise (LE) Directorate at SMC. This position is located at Los Angeles AFB, CA. Key aspects of this oversight will include the following:

System safety documentation

Programmatic Environmental Safety and Health Evaluations

Launch range safety
Payload integration
Flight safety
Launch verification matrix (LVM)
Flight termination systems
Hazard analysis
Day of Launch activities
Debris recovery
 

Job Specific Responsibilities:

Performs system safety analyses of hardware and for launch systems

Utilizes technical and safety review and documentation analysis techniques to include fault tree analyses, failure modes and hazardous effects analyses, inadvertent launch analyses, and other techniques as required.

Duties include preparing and/or updating safety assessment reports and risk assessment reports.  Reviewing and analyzing system safety management and program plans, safety analyses, accident and incident data, mishap investigation reports, safety test plans and results, and other ESOH related data. Preparing risk assessment reports, safety assessment reports, and technical data packages and presentation materials for safety review boards.

Conducting or review safety assessment of new, updated, and/or modified hardware and software, waivers, and exemption requests. Performing operational analyses and studies to identify potential deficiencies in operating procedures, ordnance handling procedures, stowage or other logistics phases involving ordnance, safety procedures, etc. and making specific recommendations for their resolution. May also perform environmental safety assessments.

 

Required Qualifications & Experience

Clearance level: DoD Secret; TS/SCI desired

Participated with senior managers to establish plans and objectives

Ability to recommend/make decisions on administrative or project work matters and ensures effective achievement of program, project, or organizational objectives

Bachelors and nine (9) years or more of related experience

PhD or JD and four (4) years or more of related experience
