The Heavy Equipment Mechanic (part-time) analyzes malfunctions and repairs, rebuilds and maintains power equipment, such as cranes, power shovels, scrapers, paving machines, motor graders, trench-digging machines, conveyors, bulldozers, dredges, pumps, compressors and pneumatic tools.
This worker operates and inspects machines or equipment to diagnose defects, dismantles and reassembles equipment, using hoists and hand tools, examines parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges, replaces defective engines and subassemblies, such as transmissions, and tests overhauled equipment to insure operating efficiency.
The mechanic welds broken parts and structural members, cleaning parts and assisting with assembly and disassembly of equipment, and may repair, adjust and maintain mining machinery, such as stripping and loading shovels, drilling and cutting machines, and continuous mining machines.
Deploys on Contingency Operations worldwide
Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs maintenance support to Patriot systems to include trailers, generators and prime movers (tactical wheel vehicles)
Conducts in-shop inspection of machines or equipment to diagnose defects, dismantles and reassembles equipment, using hoists and hand tools.
Examines parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges.
Replaces defective parts, major assemblies (engines and subassemblies, such as transmissions), and tests overhauled equipment to insure operating efficiency.
Performs maintenance action IAW prescribed technical manuals and Army AR 735 series publications
Assists welding of broken parts and structural members.
Cleans parts and assisting with assembly and disassembly of equipment
Maintains and controls tools and equipment, cleans work areas and practices safety at all times.
Performance of automotive service tasks such as: replacing fluids, spark plugs, filters, batteries, tires, etc.
May be required to assist in performance of maintenance tasks with team members
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Knowledge of material maintenance functions and repairs using prescribed technical manuals and supporting supplemental instructions
Knowledge of The Army Maintenance Management System (TAMMS)
Knowledge of Patriot prime movers (tactical wheel vehicles), trailers, generators and ancillary equipment
Knowledge and experience with repairs, troubleshooting, inspection and classification of Patriot systems (automotive)
Knowledge of proper use of hand tools, diagnosis equipment
Use of prescribed forms to document repairs, faults, and corrective actions IAW Army TAMMS instructions
Minimum Job Requirements:
Graduate Army Professional Development Course (CMF 63 or 91) or equivalent
An active Secret clearance
3 years experience in working in mechanical maintenance operations
Ability to lift 50 LBS
Work may require exposure to extreme temperature in non-air conditioned environment outside or in maintenance shops.
HS diploma but preferred college or technical degree in automotive maintenance
Military license to operated equipment supported and a CDL license to operate equipment supported.
Must be able to deploy on short notice to support Contingency Operations worldwide
