Job Description:

An opportunity exists within SVTAD’s Seapower and Sensor Systems (SSS) Department in Bath, Maine for a Senior Manager, Systems Engineering.

The SSS Department is responsible for providing system engineering, integration, test, and verification expertise to Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems (IDS) U.S. and foreign government programs. SSS work scope includes software, hardware, and integrated system-level products with activities extending from initials concept, land-based integration and test, product sell-off, platform and field installation, integration and test, site surveys, support to customer field testing, and life-cycle support. Program focus areas include Naval Weapons, Maritime Combat Systems, Underwater Sensors and Vehicles, Surface and Submarine Ship Systems, Maritime Domain Awareness, and Communication Infrastructure Systems. SSS is centered at the Seapower Capability Center in Portsmouth, Rhode Island.
This position is for a Senior Manager, Engineering to serve as the DDG 1002HM&E Shipboard Activation and Test Team Lead. This position will manage the team responsible for planning and executing the shipyard industrial activation and test of Raytheon Mission System Equipment installed in the DDG 1002Destroyer. This position will be responsible for direct planning, coordination and issue resolution with the Navy Customer, Ship Crew and Bath Iron Works (BIW) senior leadership. This activity will occur predominately at a shipyard facility in Bath, ME and periodic support in San Diego, CA. The team includes personnel resident at the shipyard facility in Bath ME, as well as a significant number of personnel temporarily assigned from other Raytheon and partner locations. Occasional travel to Tewksbury MA, Portsmouth RI and San Diego CA will be required. Relocation to the DDG-1002 ship activation site in Bath, ME is required.

Work Environment

The work will be performed mostly on board a naval vessel under construction and during trial periods at sea. Prior experience working in this environment is desirable.
Physical requirements include:

  • Work in confined spaces

  • Ability to work in an industrial environment

This position requires an active U.S. Security Clearance as of day one of employment. Except in rare circumstances, only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Required Qualifications:
  • U.S. Citizenship is required
  • Active/Current Secret US Security Clearance.
  • 12+ related professional work experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) or 15+ years of relevant experience in lieu of Degree.
  • Experience with system integration and/or test.
  • Prior direct supervisory management experience
Desired Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of U.S. Naval Shipboard Industrial Stage Testing, as well as Ship/Crew Training and Certification processes and procedures
  • Strong background in DDG 1000 class Mission System Equipment requirements and concept of operation
  • Strong Communication Skills with ability to recommend and influence direction based on current circumstances to the Navy customer, DDG-1002 ships crew, BIW and subcontractors.
  • 10+ years of shipyard experience including demonstrated understanding of shipyard processes, planning, waterfront operations, and ship activation
  • Naval or merchant marine operational experience with particular emphasis on engineering and Damage Control systems
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the integration of ship, Damage Control and machinery system control and automation including relevant shipboard integration and activation experience
  • Strong leadership and management experience. Position will manage approximately 25 to 35 personnel depending on the phase of the Mission System Equipment activation on board the DDG-1002.
  • Raytheon Earned Value Management (EVM) certification
  • Experience in preparing Estimates at Completion (EAC) and proposal bidding
  • Demonstrated performance as a Cost Account Manager (CAM)
  • Raytheon Six Sigma Specialist
