Description

GDIT is seeking a Scientific Data Systems Operator to support the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA's) National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) in Asheville, North Carolina.

Position

This position is part of a kanban agile team supporting the Data Access Branch’s Data Access Operations team. This team works on a variety of science data and metadata management systems to monitor production processes, deploy software changes to the test and production tiers, and assess data and metadata quality. The position will:

  • Be suited for a motivated individual who is starting a career in technology, or in climatology, meteorology, or related environmental science.
  • Require monitoring service logs, data files and directories to ascertain service status.
  • Require performance of data management tasks.
  • Require integration testing of code prior to and after software deployments.
  • Require attention to detail and following established process.

Required Skills

  • Command line experience in Unix or Linux
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Good communication skills, written and verbal

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with meteorological and climate science.
  • Programming experience, especially in Unix/Linux/Python shell scripting and Java.
  • Familiarity with THREDDS Data Server (TDS) operation and configuration.
  • Familiarity with meteorological and/or climate data formats, e.g NetCDF, GRIB, and/or generic data file formats like CSV and JSON.
  • Familiarity with revision control/deployment/CI/CD tools like git and GitLab.
