GDIT is hiring a Public Health Nurse to support the Army Public Health Nursing (APHN) Division, Army Public Health Center (APHC) located in Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD. APHC's mission is to: Enhance Army readiness by identifying and assessing current and emerging health threats, developing and communicating public health solutions, and assuring the quality and effectiveness of the Army's Public Health Enterprise.

 

About the Program:

The Public Health Practice at APHC was established 8 years ago to support initiatives to improve the readiness of the force.  This Division is involved in the Health of the Force and assessment of the community health and align with the accreditation of Public Health.  This group informs the communities on disease intervention related to infectious disease outbreaks, maternal health, Family Advocacy for child and youth services, and health and sanitation inspection.  This group serve as the senior public health resource for military treatment facilities.  They develop the ways and means for the workforce – developing the workforce, standardizing tools, strategizing to inform policy to manage STI cases, child and youth services.  The standardized tools are designed for community health assessments and are involved in disease outbreak investigations.  This team of Army Public Health Nurses work to standardize training.  If you like investigative work, this division is at the forefront of this work to ensure provider adoption and improve patient outcomes; they were tasked to respond to request for information on the measles outbreak and assessment of vulnerable populations within the Army.

The Public Health Nurse provides consultative assistance concerning APHN and preventive health practices and delivery across the enterprise to support and protect the operating force and military communities. Collaborates across the military health system, and among military services, national departments and agencies to develop, integrate, standardize, and evaluate public health strategies. Facilitates team planning, coordinating and conducting public health nursing (PHN) program reviews and consultation; develops strategies to resolve complex problems relating to PHN and facilitates implementation of standardized and evidence-based APHN practice, programs, and processes.

 

  • Provides support to the APHN Senior Leader for enterprise-wide nursing program development, management, administration, quality assurance and evaluation. Provides recommendations and direction on delivery of APHN services, requirements, and procedures.
  • Establishes criteria to evaluate APHN practices, programs and delivery of public health (PH) services.
  • Plans and conducts reviews to evaluate the effectiveness of DA installation APHN and related PH services/programs.
  • Analyzes and interprets data from DA installations regarding comprehensive APHN programs for their impact on pertaining to APHN and related PH services.
  • Develops and executes special projects to improve enterprise-wide APHN services, health education and wellness, and work-force development.
  • Researches trends and patterns to develop new methods and standardized evidence-based criteria.
  • Develops standard procedures, administrative documents, and informational material to correct unusual conditions and critical problems unique to Army installations.
  • Develops innovative and unique methods of problem solving and evaluation. Reports findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
  • Represents the Army and MEDCOM in DOD and other inter-agency meetings involving policy matters relating to APHN and delivery of PH services.
  • Serves on committees and work groups established to review and inform proposed regulations, guidelines and procedures.
  • Presents lectures or briefings and represents MEDCOM, Public Health Center, and APHN at conferences, meetings, seminars and workshops.
  • Coordinates worldwide APHN all-staff meetings and associated continuing nursing education (CNE) producing presentations.
  • Plans, coordinates and conducts APHN strategic planning meetings and training courses.

 

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of relevant experience.
  • Have a wide range of nursing and PHN theories, principles, concepts and practices.
  • Have basic knowledge of project management concepts, techniques and automation tools, resource interpretation and forecasting.
  • US citizenship is required with the ability to obtain a favorable T1 security investigation

Education:

 

  • MS/MBA required; MPH would be desirable and/or prior experience in public health.
  • RN license in good standing.
