Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking experienced CEI Inspectors for the Raleigh, NC office. This is is an opportunity to join AECOM North Carolina CEI team.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Performs routine, standardized inspections of roadway and bridge construction to evaluate if construction conforms to NCDOT plans, specifications, and special provisions and appropriate materials and construction processes are used

  • Documents daily inspection and communicates to the lead project inspector

  • Examines and interprets construction plans, quantities, and schedules

  • Supports engineers and higher level inspectors in areas such as construction inspection, surveying and material sampling and testing

  • Completes a variety of complex calculations and check drawings

  • Prepares field books for contractor payment

  • Works independently and under the direct supervision of the CEI lead

  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required

  • 2+ years of roadway construction experience

  • Requires NCDOT material testing and sampling certifications, current certifications preferred, or ability to attain within a +/-90 day timeframe as class schedule allows:

  • NCDOT Concrete

  • NCDOT QMS Roadway

  • NCDOT Conventional Density

  • NCDOT ABC Sampling

  • NCDOT Borrow Pit Sampling

  • NCDOT Level II Erosion & Sediment Control

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license

  • Occasional lifting of equipment or materials up to 60 lbs. and perform physical activities required of the testing procedures including squatting, bending, lifting, climbing and traversing difficult terrain

  • Good communication skills, both oral and written

  • Working knowledge of mathematics including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry

  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, contract provisions, and inspection procedures

  • Basic computer skills including use of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and use of iPad

  • Willingness to perform work after regular business hours, on weekends and holidays when necessary

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associates degree in Civil Engineering Technology or similar focus preferred

  • 4+ years of roadway construction experience

  • Engineering Interns (EI) may be eligible for this position with less than the required years of experience

  • General knowledge of surveying methods, equipment and material used in highway construction
