Job Summary

The Buildings and Places group is a vibrant and growing business line which delivers Engineering, architectural and project management services as well as planning and economic analysis for vertical construction projects. Project assignments may include, although not limited to, water / waste water plants, commercial, institutional, healthcare, pharmaceutical and transit facilities.

AECOM’s Markham office is currently seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our growing water and wastewater electrical team in Buildings and Places group. We are seeking someone with electrical commissioning and site review experience.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing various types of reports including technical memorandum, schematic design, design development, facility electrical services assessment, and design build/assist scope of work documents

  • Preparing electrical design reports, drawings, specifications and cost estimate through out the primary design and detail design stages

  • Implement design concept through the preparation and production of drawings to detail power distribution and processing equipment control , lighting, , fire alarm, and specialty low voltage systems rough-ins (i.e. telecomm., intrusion control, security, CCTV, door access controls, etc.)

  • Providing technical and administrative support through all phases of the project

  • Conduct site inspections to gather field data and condition assessment. Work with electrical equipment manufacturers and suppliers to obtain all necessary industrial design data and incorporate into the design drawings and specifications.

  • Ensuring design conforms with all applicable codes and standards;

  • Attendance to various stage project meetings involving clients, consultants and contractors. Provide technical supports to the project managers, responding to technical queries

  • Coordinate with local hydro utilities for incoming power services.

  • Construction administration responsibilities:

  • Attending site inspection, meetings and site reviews complete with reports

  • Shop drawing reviews

  • Responding to contractor’s RFIs

  • SI and CCN preparations.

  • Contractor`s change quotation reviews

  • Progress billing reviews

  • Fire alarm verification report reviews

  • Supervision of FAT and SAT and commissioning

  • Able to work to tight schedules, control project budgets and motivate staff to do the same

  • Sound judgment supported by excellent technical, analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Well organized, self-directed work habits with a demonstrated ability to prioritize and schedule tasks managing multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic environment.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering

  • At the very least, 6+ years of experience in the engineering consulting industry, preferably in a water and wastewater infrastructure engineering group

  • Electrical commissioning and site review experience.

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in Ontario

  • Familiarity with OESC,OBC, IEEE, NFPA, ASHRAE, CSA and other industry standards and codes

  • Experience as electrical lead engineer leading electrical design in water & wastewater projects

  • Experience in designing electrical power distribution including MV and LV distribution system, plant MV and LV substation c/w standby generators, switchgear break operation and control schematic, protection relay wiring diagram, main power transformer protection and monitoring, MV and LV motor control schematics with VFD and or Soft Starter to various process and HVAC system PCN requirements, MCC line-up, etc.

  • Knowledge with power analysis tools such as SKM and/or ETAP

  • Proficient in the use of computers for making engineering calculations, spreadsheets, and report writing

  • Familiarity with providing guidance and support for others within a department

  • Analytical, technical and problem-solving skills and abilities

  • Ability to communicate, coordinate, and work well with others both internally and externally

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and commitment to technical excellence and quality

  • Self-motivated and proactive

  • Analytical, resourceful and detailed oriented

  • A good team player and decision maker.

  • Valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience as electrical engineer doing electrical design in water & wastewater projects

  • Familiarity with OESC,OBC, IEEE, NFPA, ASHRAE, CSA and other industry standards and codes

  • Experience in designing electrical power distribution including MV and LV distribution system, plant MV and LV substation c/w standby generators, switchgear break operation and control schematic, protection relay wiring diagram, main power transformer protection and monitoring, MV and LV motor control schematics with VFD and or Soft Starter to various process and HVAC system PCN requirements, MCC line-up, etc.

  • Experience with electrical load calculations, system study , arc flash and harmonic analysis are a plus

  • Additional certifications such as PMP, LEED etc. are a bonus

  • Experience with electrical life safety, instrumentation and PLC system design experience is a plus

  • Experience with IES energy modeling tool is desirable
