AECOM has an immediate opening in our Germantown, MD office for a Senior Geologist/Geotechnical Project Manager. Responsibilities of the position includes, but not limited to:
Utilizes advanced scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies develop technical solutions to complex problems.
Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, compares findings to relevant studies and local, provincial and national regulations to ensure compliance. Work is performed with minimal direction.
Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment. Responsible for advanced duties and activities in their specialized functional area.
Conducts research and does investigation work as required.
Plans and organizes project studies.
Assists in the resolution of conflicting technical information and unsuitability of standard procedures.
Performs complex assignments often requiring the development of unique solutions to problems.
May oversee the work of less experienced scientists.
BS degree in Geology from an accredited US School
Licensed Professional geologist
A minimum of 6 years of proven experience managing geotechnical projects
10-15 years of experience with Engineering geology and geotechnical construction
Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams remotely located within AECOM
Ability to travel for 1 to 2 weeks domestically and internationally
Experience and willingness to mentor junior staff
Experience in preparing cost and qualification based proposals for private and government clients
Experience with underground construction, shallow and deep foundations, slope stability
Experience with engineering geology software
Ability to lift 50 lbs
Valid Driver’s license
Must be a US Citizen
In-depth knowledge of geology within Virginia, Maryland and District of Columbia
Demonstrated hands-on experience of conducting large scale subsurface investigations using various drilling methodologies like air rotary, sonic, rock coring, direct push, hollow stem augers, etc.
Experience with geotechnical laboratory testing.
Candidate should be able to work with minimal supervision
Experience with geophysical methods.
Experience with gINT and slope stability software
Experience with report writing
Strong written and oral communication, quantitative and interpersonal skills
Experience with working on international projects at US military installations
Ability to obtain security clearance
Willingness to represent AECOM at professional organizations
