Job Summary

AECOM has an immediate opening in our Germantown, MD office for a Senior Geologist/Geotechnical Project Manager. Responsibilities of the position includes, but not limited to:

  • Utilizes advanced scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies develop technical solutions to complex problems.

  • Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, compares findings to relevant studies and local, provincial and national regulations to ensure compliance. Work is performed with minimal direction.

  • Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment. Responsible for advanced duties and activities in their specialized functional area.

  • Conducts research and does investigation work as required.

  • Plans and organizes project studies.

  • Assists in the resolution of conflicting technical information and unsuitability of standard procedures.

  • Performs complex assignments often requiring the development of unique solutions to problems.

  • May oversee the work of less experienced scientists.

Minimum Requirements

  • BS degree in Geology from an accredited US School

  • Licensed Professional geologist

  • A minimum of 6 years of proven experience managing geotechnical projects

  • 10-15 years of experience with Engineering geology and geotechnical construction

  • Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams remotely located within AECOM

  • Ability to travel for 1 to 2 weeks domestically and internationally

  • Experience and willingness to mentor junior staff

  • Experience in preparing cost and qualification based proposals for private and government clients

  • Experience with underground construction, shallow and deep foundations, slope stability

  • Experience with engineering geology software

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs

  • Valid Driver’s license

  • Must be a US Citizen

Preferred Qualifications

  • In-depth knowledge of geology within Virginia, Maryland and District of Columbia

  • Demonstrated hands-on experience of conducting large scale subsurface investigations using various drilling methodologies like air rotary, sonic, rock coring, direct push, hollow stem augers, etc.

  • Experience with geotechnical laboratory testing.

  • Candidate should be able to work with minimal supervision

  • Experience with geophysical methods.

  • Experience with gINT and slope stability software

  • Experience with report writing

  • Strong written and oral communication, quantitative and interpersonal skills

  • Experience with working on international projects at US military installations

  • Ability to obtain security clearance

  • Willingness to represent AECOM at professional organizations
