Job Description:

    SUMMARY:

    Processes requests for shipment of material to authorized domestic and overseas customers. Provides shipping information to carriers, customers, and shipping offices. Types, distributes, and files forms, letters and reports. Traces missing or late shipments. Processes documents for shipments and inputs information into the ADP registers, carrier tenders and tariffs and reference files, in manual and computer-generated format for functional purposes.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Must be able to utilize and comply with multi-service regulatory sources to determine special service requirements, hazardous precautions, and security considerations, in accordance with transportation,security, and safety regulations.
    • Ability to make cost comparisons using carrier tenders and tariffs, agency contracts, and the Electronic Transportation Acquisition (ETA) System, including review of service features for compatibility.
    • Provide estimated rates for various modes of shipment at the customers request to allow selection of the most economical shipping method available.
    • Ability to arrange pickup and delivery times with carriers and determine the type of equipment needed to meet customer requirements and comply with regulatory, federal, state, and local laws.
    • Ability to use Financial and Air Clearance Transportation Systems (FACTS) to book shipments on military air flights to overseas locations and prepare required documentation, including air bills and customs forms, for commercial air shipments to final destinations.
    • Obtain proof of delivery at the customers request.
    • Ability to report carrier performance failures as required using the Global Freight Management (GFM) System.
    • Ability to prepare Reports of Shipment for shipments containing classified, sensitive, Class A or B explosives, or those requiring special handling, and provide them to the consignee no later than 24 hours after release to the carrier.
    • Ability to prepare all required shipment documentation, including but not limited to Bills of Lading, Signature and Tally documents, Shippers Declarations for Hazardous Materials, Commercial Invoices, and Shippers Export Declarations.
    • Review incoming documentation for discrepancies in quantity, damage, or completeness and coordinate with commercial and government shippers and carriers to resolve issues; prepare required documentation to clear discrepancies.
    • Ability to file all delivery receipts from designated delivery locations.
    • Make payments to carriers electronically using the PowerTrack system.
    • Monitor funds received from directorates at Redstone Arsenal and provide cost information to budget personnel upon request.
    • Ability to work effectively with others under strict time constraints.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Essential :

  • Must have a high school diploma/GED or equivalent .
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Possess a valid Drivers License
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a Secret Security clearance. Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance and military Common Access Card (CAC) within 30 days, if required.

Preferred :

  • Prior experience with military transportation of freight
  • HAZMAT training (49 CFR, IATA, IMDG certifications)

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

The employee must have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to read, comprehend, interpret, and explain instructions, regulations, letters, memos, emails, and other correspondence from both internal and external sources. The position requires the ability to effectively respond to, communicate with, and present information to customers, clients, internal staff, and other employees. The employee must be able to clearly interpret instructions and information and explain them to others in the performance of job duties, possess strong computer literacy, and be able to operate standard office equipment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The employee is required to walk, stand, sit, and move about the property for extended periods of time. The position involves physical activities requiring considerable use of the arms, legs, and full body, including climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, squatting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and handling materials. The employee must be able to work indoors and outdoors in inclement weather conditions. The role requires the ability to handle equipment and supplies weighing up to 30 pounds individually and occasionally items weighing more than 50 pounds with assistance. Sufficient visual acuity is required to review written documentation, along with the ability to hear and understand speech at normal room levels and on the telephone. The employee works primarily in an office environment but must be able to perform physical tasks as required. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory during all periods of exposure to hazardous conditions. The position also requires cognitive abilities including problem-solving, decision-making, data interpretation, organization, and reading and writing.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/HOURS:

This position is not eligible for remote work, as the essential functions of the role require the employee to perform duties on-site. May be exposed to inclement/extreme weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment may vary from moderate to high, depending on location. Must be able to work in fast paced, multi-task environment. If applicable work 10(+) hours per day Will require having flexed hours to accommodate for mission requirements to include weekends and Holidays. Overtime may be required.

EXPECTATIONS:

Transportation & Access: You must have reliable transportation to and from work and be able to access military installations.

Background & Drug Screening: Employment requires passing a background check and pre-employment drug screening. Random drug and alcohol testing may also occur without prior notice.

Timesheets: Record your actual work hours daily and ensure your entries are accurate and timely to support smooth operations.

Dress & Punctuality: Arrive on time and dress appropriately for your shift.

BACKGROUND INVESTIGATIONS:

All employees are required to undergo an initial background investigation as a condition of employment. Additionally, employees may be subject to subsequent background investigations if circumstances warrant, such as the emergence of a need, an issue, or probable cause.

Employees assigned to work on federal installations or projects must also comply with government-mandated background investigations, which are conducted independently of the company's investigations.
