Position Summary
The First Class Engineer is a senior-level, licensed engineering professional responsible for the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of complex mechanical and electrical systems within a government facility. This position is contingent upon contract award. The First Class Engineer serves as the highest-level stationary engineer on site, providing technical leadership and oversight while ensuring all building systems operate safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with federal regulations and contract requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Operate, maintain, and repair complex building systems, including boilers, HVAC equipment, mechanical systems, and associated electrical components
Serve as the senior technical authority for engineering and building operations within the facility
Troubleshoot system failures and perform corrective maintenance with minimal supervision
Lead, mentor, and oversee junior engineers and maintenance personnel
Ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations, codes, and federal standards
Monitor system performance and implement preventative maintenance programs
Review technical documentation, logs, and maintenance records for accuracy and compliance
Coordinate repairs, inspections, and system testing as required by contract or regulatory agencies
Respond to facility emergencies and support continuity of operations
Required Qualifications
Active Secret Security Clearance (required)
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university or college
Valid Stationary Engineer Grade 1 License
Seven (7) to ten (10) years of experience in engineering services, facilities engineering, or building operations
Extensive experience operating and maintaining complex mechanical and electromechanical systems
Strong knowledge of safety regulations, codes, and best practices applicable to government facilities
Ability to work independently and make sound technical decisions in a regulated environment
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting U.S. government facilities or contracts
Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience
Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills
Work Environment and Conditions
This position is performed in a secure government facility and requires adherence to all applicable security, safety, and compliance requirements. The role may involve physical activity, including lifting, climbing, and working in mechanical spaces, as necessary to perform job duties.
