The Advocacy Manager designs and executes digital-first strategies to grow, engage, and mobilize our base of grassroots advocate in support of organizational priorities at the federal, state, and local levels. This person leads day-to-day execution of all grassroots digital advocacy efforts, leveraging social media campaigns, paid targeted aids, email and SMS action alerts, and other interactive tools to create measurable constituent pressure on policymakers at scale and speed.

This position is preferably based in Washington, DC; but could be fully remote for the right candidate living outside of the D.C. area. The position offers a salary range of $65k-$70k. Exact compensation within the stated salary range may vary based on skills, experience, internal equity, and geographical location.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Build and launch digital grassroots advocacy campaigns (email, text, action pages, click-to-call tools) around legislative moments, in close coordination with Communications, Fundraising, and other departments.
  • Proactively identify and surface timely advocacy opportunities aligned with organizational priorities, and design compelling digital advocacy experiences that make it easy and meaningful for supporters to take action.
  • Partner with Communications on organic and paid strategies (social ads, targeted campaigns) that drive grassroots advocacy engagement and constituent pressure.
  • Draft advocacy alerts and other copy that activates grassroots supporters to take action.
  • Create shareable digital resources like one-pagers and toolkits to engage and mobilize grassroots advocates.
  • Track digital engagement metrics including actions taken, grassroots base growth, and campaign conversion rates; report results to the team.
  • Through partnership with State Campaigns, leverage relationships with local grassroot advocates, including parents, educators, and other frontline community voices.
  • Partner with colleagues to support Share Our Strength's work to be a diverse and inclusive organization, and ensuring this value is embedded in the organization and throughout our work.
  • Travel less than 10% (Once a quarter possible).

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred but not required.
  • 3-5 years of experience in digital advocacy, grassroots mobilization, and/or organizing campaigns.
  • Experience with digital advocacy platforms (e.g. EveryAction, CiviClick, Luminate) and grassroots engagement tools; proficiency with email/SMS campaign management, social media advertising platforms, and basic analytics/reporting.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and relationship management skills, including the ability to identify and work through challenges, underscored by strong judgment and emotional intelligence.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently on multi-step, detail-oriented projects in a fluid environment and manage multiple campaigns simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including experience crafting compelling digital advocacy content and calls-to-action.
  • Interest in anti-hunger and anti-poverty issues.
