Job Summary

Amentum is seeking a Meteorologist for Range Operations to support the Space Force Range contract.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform surface observations, synoptic evaluations, and upper-air wind editing during launch operations
  • Analyze and edit wind speed and directional data in support of mission activities to ensure the highest quality of data is sent to the launch customer
  • Coordinate launch critical information to the launch customer
  • Analyze current weather conditions and create short-term forecasts to utilize for editing the upper level wind data
  • Support operational testing of meteorological instrumentation
  • Control and develop procedures and instructions for the Cape Weather Station
  • Inventory and purchase weather balloons, radiosondes and parachutes when required
  • Perform inventories and internal audits on government property
  • Perform internal quality audits
  • Complete assigned training and assist with the training of others to ensure optimal availability of qualified personnel for daily operations and launch support
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

  • BS degree in meteorology, atmospheric sciences, or related discipline
  • Two (2) years of weather forecasting experience in an operations environment
  • Thorough knowledge of upper air wind characteristics
  • MS Windows and MS Office experience
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux experience, preferred
  • Experience working on the Eastern/Western Range or military meteorological systems, preferred
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently in high-stress environments
  • Ability to work well with minimal supervision
  • Ability to interface with all levels of personnel in a diverse, team-orientated environment
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with employees and the public

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • Local travel required between Weather sites on Cape Canaveral Space Force Station
  • Possess visual acuity correctable to 20/20
  • Ability to visually observe clouds
  • Ability to work outdoors in extreme conditions
  • The flexibility to work frequent non-duty hours or on weekends to support specific project or mission requirements
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance, which includes U.S. citizenship
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License
