POSITION PURPOSE

The Janitor is responsible for performing general custodial duties to keep buildings and surrounding area in a clean and orderly condition.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform general custodial duties such as sweeping, picking up trash in designated areas, and operating the floor sweeper in and around the plant.

  • Use water to control dust on the floor.

  • Make sure that waste bins are emptied

  • Ensure premise is free from obstructions in hall, drive, and walkways as well as property and building entry ways

  • Conduct minor plumbing repairs as required such as clogged drains or toilets

  • Maintain the supply and equipment needed for cleaning duties

  • Inventory custodial supplies and restock items as needed

  • Maintain overall property and building appearance

SCOPE OF AUTHORITY

  • Must be able to work independently and complete tasks with little supervision

CHARACTERISTICS (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Self-motivated

  • Able to meet deadlines

  • Able to adapt to changes in work schedules, tasks, or processes

  • Understand and follow verbal instructions

  • Basic reading, writing, and math skills

  • Understanding of chemical safety

EDUCATION AND TECHNOLOGY

  • One year of previous custodial experience preferred

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred

  • Some experience preforming cleaning and upkeep preferred

WORK ENVIRONMENT / SCHEDULE

  • Monday through Friday; start and finish times may vary per location and production needs

  • Overtime and occasional weekend work may be required based on production needs

  • Indoor and outdoor

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires standing for long periods of time, frequent lifting (up to 50 pounds) and bending, repetitive motion with medium force, and an ability to frequently climb up to 15 feet above the ground using stairs.
