What You Will Do
The Assistant Director of Counseling | Clinical Training Coordinator plays a key leadership role within Counseling Services, providing clinical supervision, programmatic oversight, and strategic support to ensure high-quality, ethical, and student-centered mental health care while advancing the Counseling Center's clinical training mission.
Working in close partnership with the Director of Counseling, this role supports daily center operations, supervises clinicians and trainees, serves as the centralized coordinator for all undergraduate and graduate clinical training programs, and fosters a structured, supportive training environment aligned with the mission and strategic priorities of the Counseling Center. This position contributes to SIUE's commitment to student health, well-being, and success through collaborative, integrated mental health care and clinical training initiatives.

This position contributes to SIUE's commitment to student health, well-being, and success through collaborative, integrated mental health care and clinical training initiatives.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Provide clinical supervision and consultation to unlicensed clinicians working toward independent licensure, ensuring adherence to professional, ethical, and legal standards.
- Serve as a clinical leader in complex case consultation, including risk assessment, crisis response, and coordination of care.
- Support the Director in the daily functioning of the Counseling Center, including clinical workflow coordination, coverage planning, and implementation of policies and procedures.
- Assist with case management coordination for students with complex, high-risk, or ongoing care needs in collaboration with campus and community partners.
- Serve as the centralized coordinator for all clinical training programs within Counseling Services, including MSW practicum placements, Counselor-in-Training internships, and undergraduate social services internships.
- Design, implement, and oversee structured onboarding, training curricula, supervision frameworks, and evaluation processes for all clinical trainees.
- Ensure all clinical training activities align with applicable professional and accreditation standards, including NASW, CACREP, APA, and university requirements.
- Maintain required training documentation, affiliation agreements, evaluations, and ongoing communication with academic programs and university partners.
- Participate in Counseling Services leadership discussions and contribute to clinical quality improvement and professional development initiatives.
- Promote trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and ethical clinical practice across Counseling Services

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Social Work from an accredited program
- Independent clinical licensure (LCSW) required
- Minimum of three (3) years of post-graduate clinical experience in a mental health setting.
- Demonstrated knowledge of professional training standards and best practices for clinical education, supervision, and practicum/internship programs.
- Experience providing clinical supervision, case consultation, or training to graduate-level trainees, interns, or early-career clinicians
- Experience working in a university counseling center or comparable clinical setting serving a diverse population.
- Experience designing and delivering workshops, trainings, seminars, or professional development activities.
- Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations and incorporating multicultural, equity-informed, and trauma-informed frameworks into clinical practice, supervision, and training.
- Strong organizational, coordination, and program management skills, with the ability to manage multiple training activities and compliance requirements simultaneously.
- Ability to build collaborative relationships across academic and clinical systems
- Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and mentoring skills
- Ability to uphold and model high ethical standards in clinical practice and supervision
Preferred Qualifications: - Two years of supervision
