JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists with admission process by orienting patient/family to unit, and hospital facilities and services. Documents in patient record per unit standards.
Attends and successfully achieves completion of all patient care components of General Nursing Orientation (GNO) and any specific department orientation.
Assists RN in delivery of patient care according to unit standards, policies, and procedures, and patient’s plan of care. Contributes relevant and appropriate information to RN. Maintains confidentiality of patient information. Supports the Patient Bill of Rights. Participates in meeting and reinforcing patient’s educational needs and documents accordingly. Demonstrates knowledge of sterile technique.
Reports changes in patient’s status (e.g., changes in vital signs, level of consciousness, weight, mobility status, comfort level, feeding pattern or any unusual occurrences) to RN in a timely manner.
In departments other than the Operating Room, under the direction of RN:
- Monitors and accurately records patient intake and output.
- Assists patients with routine activities of daily living: feeding, bathing, ambulating, and skin care according to policy and documents appropriately.
- Takes initial vital signs, measurements, and weights as part of admission process.
Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills appropriate to the age, type, and development level of patients.
With RN supervision, performs basic nursing procedures (starting IV’s, NG tube placement, etc.) per Delegation of Patient Care Activities Policy. May not administer medication.
Performs nursing assessment, for learning purposes, in conjunction with the licensed RN who performs an independent assessment and provides validation/co-signature of documentation.
Assists with discharge planning and patient education under direct RN supervision.
Provides and documents patient treatments under RN supervision.
Provides emotional support to patients and families and documents appropriately.
Attends and participates in unit related in-services, conferences, and meetings.
Collaborates by working with others to achieve unit and organizational goals. Utilizes proper chain of command for resolution of difficult issues.
Participates in unit staff meetings and CQI plan to improve organizational performance and achieve unit and organizational goals.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Clearly communicates and continuously supports the Mission and Values of Johnson Memorial Health.
Conducts all activities in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, and Johnson Memorial Health policies and procedures including Blood and Body Substance Precautions.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing school, has not yet obtained an RN license, and must have accepted employment in a nursing unit/department at JMH. Must be eligible to take the RN licensure exam. GN must attempt NCLEX/nursing board exam within thirty (30) days of receiving ATT. If GN does not successfully obtain licensure on first try, GN must attempt NCLEX/nursing board exam within 45 days after notification of not obtaining on first attempt. If GN does not successfully obtain licensure after second attempt, one of the following will occur:
a. Employment will be terminated.
b. Employee will be placed on administrative leave until RN licensure is passed (not to exceed 90 days).
c. Employee will be placed in an available open PCT position until licensure is successfully obtained.

SCHEDULE:
6:00 p.m. - 6:30 a.m.
72 hours per bi-weekly pay period.
