Physical Requirements
Candidates must be willing and able to work outside in weather conditions that may not always be favorable. Able to lift, push and/or pull heavy objects (50lbs) on a regular basis. Risk of injury from use of equipment on the job.

Job Summary
The Plant Pathology department in the Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment, seeks a strong analytical and communication skills for the Research Analyst role. Plant Pathology focuses on fundamental research, while keeping “one foot in the furrow” by helping Kentucky’s agricultural community combat plant diseases, and the Analyst is a key member of the team.

About the Role

The position plays a key role in coordinating, collecting, and analyzing data for both field and laboratory-based research projects focused on corn, sorghum, and forage diseases across Kentucky. This position supports critical initiatives such as corn nematode studies, corn stunt pathogen investigations, and statewide mycotoxin surveys. In addition, the analyst will contribute to laboratory operations, including the maintenance and management of culture collections, ensuring the integrity and continuity of ongoing research efforts.

Candidates must possess good communication skills, be detail-oriented, and able to complete tasks independently. Excel, Word, PowerPoint and also a basic understanding of sampling methodology, statistics, genetics, and molecular biology.

Preferred Education/Experience
M.S. and 2 years experience

Preferred: Kentucky Pesticide Applicator License, or the ability to obtain after hire
Understanding of field and laboratory plant pathology research techniques is a must.
