Essential Job Functions:
The Regional Desktop Support Technician (Hybrid) provides high quality technical support and customer service to more than 5,000 Judicial Branch employees across the State of Maryland. This role supports account management, incident troubleshooting, network connectivity, and hardware/software configuration while serving as a primary liaison between end users and the Judiciary. The technician ensures timely communication regarding system events, outages, and service impacts, and helps meet the full range of user technology needs.
This position operates across multiple on-site locations, providing Tier 1 and Tier 2 support both remotely and in person. The role is based in Annapolis, and the technician is required to report to the Annapolis. Frequent travel to Judiciary locations is required to address issues that need in person assistance.
Provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 support for workstations, applications, peripherals, and network components. Manage Service Desk requests, delivering first level problem resolution and escalating critical issues appropriately. Monitor and maintain JIS IT systems to ensure reliability and performance. Serve as a primary point of contact for end users, ensuring clear communication and exceptional customer service. Participates in a rotating schedule with other desktop support technicians to provide after hours on call coverage.
Support annual cyclical computer replacement (refresh) activities, including planning, imaging, deployment, and post installation validation. Assist with JIS IT life cycle management and ensure accurate assignment and tracking of regional IT assets within the inventory management system.
Provide project management and technical guidance for JIS upgrades, rollouts, refresh cycles, and related IT initiatives. Coordinate with subject matter experts, vendors, and Annapolis based staff to resolve complex IT issues and ensure smooth project execution.
Frequent travel between counties when requested to provide service, install/remove equipment, and support operational needs. Provide on site assistance for employees connecting to the JIS network during onboarding, offboarding, and staff relocations. Serve as a liaison between regional offices and JIS IT groups to diagnose and troubleshoot network related issues.
Train, assist, and advise Judiciary staff on optimizing the use and capabilities of JIS IT assets. Ensure all guidance aligns with established policies, procedures, and security requirements.
Assist with the creation, management, and tracking of regional JIS IT procurement needs. Maintain accurate inventory of hardware, peripherals, and related IT assets.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Associate degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Four (4) years of formal information technology, desktop support, customer support, customer service, project management, or technology management experience.
Note: Professional work experience as defined above may be substitute on a year for year basis for up to two (2) years of the required education.
Licensing: Valid Drivers license to operate a State fleet vehicle for intra-state travel.
Knowledge of:
Windows in a client-server network environment.
Active Directory user administration, remote access technologies, wireless networking, and Microsoft Office applications.
TCP/IP device configuration and general network fundamentals.
Skill in:
Interpersonal relations and delivering excellent customer service.
Effective problem solving and troubleshooting.
Clear and professional verbal and written communication.
Abilities:
Interact professionally with management and Judiciary staff at all levels.
Handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
Be punctual, organized, and self motivated in a hybrid work environment.
Adapt quickly to changing organizational needs and follow established JIS policies and procedures.
Learn new technologies, think critically, and apply knowledge to complex problems.
Ensure proper documentation, routing, and closure of incidents.
Train and guide other technicians and end users.

Physical Requirements:
Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Equipment, Machinery and Tools:
Laptop, tablet, phone, valid driver's license and ability to operate a state fleet vehicle, hand tools, ladders and tools to troubleshoot UC issues.
Software and Computer Skills:
Personal computer equipment (including cell phones) will be used regularly to support users. Equipment van will be used regularly to transport equipment to various locations within region. Hand tools may be used regularly for computer installation and repair.
