This is a 10 month position during the academic year.


Provide security services to protect University property and ensure the safety of the Bentley community. This role supports the department’s mission to deliver a comprehensive program of services that help maintain a secure, welcoming environment for living, learning, and working on campus.

Essential Duties

  • Patrol the buildings and grounds of the University to deter, detect, observe and respond to incidents related to safety, security or parking. Take the appropriate action and write reports as necessary.
  • Provide information and assistance to visitors, faculty, staff and students.
  • Provide transportation services including on-campus personal safety escorts, non-emergency medical transports to area medical facilities and other transportation duties as assigned.
  • Conduct regular inspections of alarms, lighting, emergency telephones and other security-related equipment on campus to ensure its proper operation and minimize liability exposure to University.
  • Assist in parking enforcement by issuing parking tickets as needed.


Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Must possess good verbal and written skills to effectively communicate.
  • Must have positive interpersonal skills to interact with a diverse campus population.
  • Must be willing to follow orders, policies, and procedures; Must be capable of exercising discretion and good judgment and act quickly in emergency situations.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours and work schedules.
  • Must hold and maintain a valid, unrestricted United States driver's license, with an insurable driving history as determined by Bentley's insurance carrier.


Work Environment

  • Work Schedule: 4 X 2 rotating schedule. Shifts include 7:00am – 3:00pm and 3:00pm – 11:00pm.
  • Duties require exposure to all types of weather conditions.
  • Must be capable of working flexible schedules, including forced overtime, night and evening shift work, weekends and holidays.
  • Must be able to effectively deal with occasional stressful situations, e.g. emergencies, difficult or distressed individuals.


Physical Demands

  • Must be able to accurately and efficiently communicate issues of concern and/or violations with respect to safety and security on campus, including verbal and written communication.
  • Must be capable of performing walking patrols or standing for extended periods of time in all types of weather conditions.
  • Must be capable of performing tasks that involve minimal lifting, e.g., moving and lifting barricades, traffic cones, etc.
  • Must be able to effectively and properly use a police radio to communicate.
  • Must remain alert and vigilant at all times.

This is a union position and the salary is governed by the collective bargaining agreement between the union and Bentley University.


Salary Range:

$18.52 - $24.04 per hour depending upon years of experience.
