Description

The James Madison Program (JMP) in American Ideals and Institutions at Princeton University is dedicated to the pursuit of scholarly excellence in the fields of constitutional law and political thought. As a center within the Department of Politics, JMP seeks to enrich the intellectual life of Princeton University students and faculty by exploring American constitutional principles and structures through research and public discussion.

The Politics Department and JMP invite candidates to apply for a full-time appointment as a Professional Specialist, expected to begin July 1, 2026. This position will provide key support for James Madison Program teaching while also assisting with other JMP initiatives and strategic efforts to sustain the program's ongoing activities and growth.

The specialist will be an active part of JMP's intellectual community by attending weekly sessions for JMP fellows and participating in its visiting/postdoctoral fellows' research workshop. The specialist will also assist with JMP's undergraduate fellows' program by contributing to evening faculty seminars and special speaker events. In addition, the specialist will attend JMP's public events and conferences and have a leadership role in a few of them, particularly those related to JMP's initiative on American politics and statesmanship. The specialist may also be involved in other aspects of the program in the future, including teaching in its summer programs.

The specialist is expected to conduct and publish broadly-accessible scholarly research and teach and advise students in the Politics Department, subject to enrollments and approval by the Office of the Dean of the Faculty.
