Department Overview
The Division of Hematology and Oncology, Section of Palliative Care at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) is seeking a board-certified or board-eligible Hospice and Palliative Medicine physician to join its interdisciplinary team. This hybrid role includes approximately equal inpatient and outpatient clinical responsibilities, providing comprehensive palliative care to patients with serious illness across the full continuum of care.

Function/Duties of PositionClinical Responsibilities
Inpatient Care (approximately 50%)
- Provide inpatient palliative care consultation for patients with serious and life-limiting illness across medical and surgical services
- Partner closely with primary teams, specialists, nursing, social work, chaplaincy, pharmacy, and other disciplines to deliver comprehensive, patient-centered care
- Support complex symptom management, serious illness communication, and transitions of care
- Provide in-person weekday coverage, with participation in a shared after-hours pager call rotation by phone only
- Participate in relevant institutional committees and clinical review meetings to provide palliative care representation
Outpatient Care (approximately 50%)
- Provide longitudinal outpatient palliative care for patients and families navigating serious oncologic illness at the Knight Cancer Institute
- Collaborate with specialty clinics and referring providers to support symptom management, goals of care, and continuity across care settings
- Contribute to program development and optimization of outpatient palliative care models
Education and Academic Mission
- Participate in the education and mentorship of medical students, residents, fellows, and other learners in palliative care principles and practice
- Engage in bedside teaching, didactic sessions, and interdisciplinary learning activities
- Contribute to the academic mission of OHSU through clinical education, quality improvement, scholarship, or program development, consistent with the candidate’s interests and academic track
Required Qualifications
- MD/DO
- U.S. Board certified/eligible in Hospice and Palliative Medicine
- Licensed to practice medicine in Oregon
Preferred Qualifications
- 1-2 years of experience working as part of an interdisciplinary team preferred
- Demonstrated commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care
- Passion for educating the next generation of clinicians
- Strong collaborative spirit and ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams
- Genuine enthusiasm for educating the next generation of clinicians
- Commitment to clinical excellence and staying current with evolving palliative care evidence and best practices
