Position Summary
This position will serve as the program administrator and primary School Certifying Official of the Portland State University Veterans Certification unit.

Responsibilities include making binding decisions regarding certification for federal GI Bill benefits and associated Oregon state veteran programs. The role includes providing education, promotion, and interpretations of federal and state policies to students, faculty, staff, and the broader community, including prospective students and community partners.

This position will also oversee the front line services for the Veterans Certification unit and oversee the work of student employees. Additionally, this position will serve on the PSU Veterans Resource Center Advisory Board.
Minimum Qualifications from Classification
-Two years of technical or professional-level experience advising and/or instructing the public concerning specific programs or processes, monitoring programs, or performing participant reviews.
Additional Minimum Qualifications for this Position
  • Experience in higher education or similar public, municipal entity.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex policies and processes to a broad spectrum of constituents.
  • Proven ability to perform detailed work, stay on task, and maintain multiple priorities in a self-directed way.
  • Successful completion of a background check.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with the veteran population.
  • Knowledge of federal GI Bill benefits and certification procedures using Enrollment Manager.
  • Experience managing and scheduling others

Work Days/HoursMonday through Friday, 8am to 5pm
Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement
The starting salary rate for this position will be between $23.87 and $27.43 per hour. The starting salary may be negotiable above this range, however it will be dependent upon the knowledge, experience, skills and abilities of the chosen candidate, the budget of the hiring department, and approval from HR.

Article 22 Section 6 of the SEIU collective bargaining agreement details the new salary rate upon promotion of a SEIU classified employee.
