JOB TITLE: Intern – Mechanical Design Engineer

Non-Exempt Position

REPORTS TO: Manager of Engineering

DEPARTMENT: Engineering

BASIC FUNCTION:

The Mechanical Design Engineering Intern supports the Engineering team through hands-on, project-based work focused on mechanical design, drafting, and product development. This role provides practical experience aligned with academic coursework while contributing to real-world engineering initiatives.

GENERAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Support Engineering Management with assigned project-based work.


  • Collaborate with department supervisors and leads to assist with engineering tasks and initiatives.


  • Apply academic knowledge to practical engineering challenges and design activities.


  • Assist in the development of CAD models, drawings, and basic design activities.


  • Track and report project progress, including challenges, risks, and improvement opportunities.


  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to problem-solving discussions.


  • Prepare and present a final internship report summarizing contributions, learning outcomes, and recommendations to enhance company internship programs.


JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Basic understanding of mechanical engineering principles and components.


  • Familiarity with mechanical design practices and engineering fundamentals.


  • Experience with CAD/3D modeling software (e.g. AutoCAD, SolidWorks).


  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).


  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.


  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:


  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time (7+ hours per day).


  • Occasional lifting, bending, and movement within an office or light industrial environment.



OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.


  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule as needed.

  • Maintain professional, respectful, and business-focused interactions with internal and external stakeholders.


  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and handle job-related stress effectively.


  • Support and assist the department manager on tasks and initiatives as assigned.
