Job Summary


The Division of General Internal Medicine in the Department of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the tenure stream. We are seeking a clinician scientist with a strong commitment to advancing research, clinical care, and education in general internal medicine.

We are seeking an individual with a strong record of clinical excellence and a demonstrated commitment to research in areas relevant to general internal medicine, including but not limited to health services research, implementation science, health equity, behavioral medicine, clinical epidemiology, or related fields. This position offers the opportunity to join a vibrant academic medical center with extensive resources for interdisciplinary collaboration, mentorship, and career development.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality patient care in general internal medicine in both inpatient and/or outpatient settings.
  • Establish and sustain an independent, externally funded research program in areas relevant to general internal medicine (e.g., health services research, implementation science, health equity, behavioral medicine, clinical epidemiology).
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across the University of Pittsburgh and UPMC to advance scientific discovery and improve patient outcomes.
  • Contribute to the teaching and mentorship of medical students, residents, fellows, and junior faculty.
  • Participate in divisional, departmental, and institutional service activities.

Qualifications

  • MD.
  • Board certification (or eligibility) in Internal Medicine.
  • Demonstrated potential for scholarly productivity, including peer-reviewed publications and evidence of research training.
  • Commitment to excellence in clinical care, teaching, and mentorship.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in an academic medical center environment.

    Assistant Professor candidates shall have demonstrated considerable experience in teaching ability, knowledge in advanced study and research, and exceptional professional experience, which enables the candidate to make academic contributions. Preferred candidates are expected to sustain originality, independence, leadership, and continued productivity in scholarly activity, with the compelling promise of a continued trajectory of creativity. Assistant Professor candidates will demonstrate individual scholarship skills that are impactful in the development/growth of new programs and continuing research to secure federal and peer reviewed funding. Applicants for Assistant Professor should have three or more years of experience in related scientific research, have obtained or demonstrate the ability to obtain external research funding, have disseminated results through peer-reviewed publications and other scientific forums, have significant teaching experience, and demonstrate the capacity for sustained career development and tenure.
