The University of Pittsburgh, Thomas E. Starzl Transplantation Institute is seeking a qualified Laboratory Research Technician. The incumbent will perform various human cellular immunology such as handling human blood, serum and urine (perform sterile techniques, lymphocyte purification, freezing/thawing, banking cells), flow cytometry staining/analysis, and molecular biology techniques such as RNA extraction and RT/PCR assays. The incumbent will identify/troubleshoot technical problems, optimize protocols, and maintain daily miscellaneous tasks in the lab. Excellent computer skills and ability to collect and organize results in a complex database are required. The candidate should be highly motivated and detail oriented. This position requires interaction with research personnel at various levels in the University and with external vendors. Will need to address and solve problems using new ideas or adapting to existing practices appropriately. Sound judgement and strong analytical and interpersonal skills are required.
Job Summary
Performs a variety of independent and complex laboratory work and experiments. Analyzes and interprets data, compiles results, and prepares reports. Maintains inventory, ordering, and logs. Writes manuscripts and grant proposals and prepares data visualizations.
Essential Functions
Handling human blood serum and urine, sterile techniques, lymphocyte purification, freezing/thawing cells, and flow cytometry. T cell functional assays and molecular biology techniques (i.e. RNA purification).
Physical Effort
The position requires standing, walking, minimal lifting and good hand coordination.
