The Grants & Contracts Manager will assist the Director of Research Administration in the School of Public Health Dean's Office. Responsibilities are advanced and multi-dimensional and include participation in all levels of research administration across the School. The Grants & Contracts Manager will work with the Director to provide support to all SPH Departments, assisting with school-level review of all sponsored project submissions, award activations, and modification requests. Instructs and guides faculty and support staff with applications and proposal budgets for sponsored research. Collaborates with faculty and administrators in other University departments and at other institutions and foundations. Solves problems and manages multiple priorities with strict deadlines. Interprets and applies University and funding agency policies. Assists the Director of Research Administration in preparing financial reports for internal use and to meet sponsor requirements. Will contribute to the development of School-wide policies and determine actual procedures regarding grant submissions and reporting.
Job Summary
Manages administrative and financial operations for Research Grants & Contracts and reviews and negotiates complex grants, contracts, and subcontracts. Reviews and reconciles financial and grant documents and ensures compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations. Prepares and negotiates complex budgets and related documents. Serves as a primary contact and resource regarding all aspects of research grants and contracts, updates databases and accounts, and develops and facilitates operational policies and procedures.
Essential Functions
This position requires an individual with diverse grant submission experience to review all departmental submissions accurately. The position also requires someone with pre- and post-award research administration experience so that they can support any School of Public Health department. Must be able to effectively communicate electronically and in person. Must be able to use a computer and Microsoft Office suite programs, as well as financial software systems for account projections, summaries, and related fiscal activities. Work is frequently conducted by email, telephone, in-person, or using video communication technology (Zoom, Teams, etc). Must demonstrate ability to work under pressure and constant deadlines.
Physical Effort
The position is generally sedentary; must be able to spend extended periods of time at the computer. Requires the ability to travel SPH building/campus and the Oakland area to attend meetings.
