Laboratory Technician

The Division of Infectious Diseases, Shields laboratory is seeking a laboratory technician who will be responsible for standard laboratory operations, including the cultivation and storage of bacterial isolates, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, operation of in vitro bacterial killing assays, and standard molecular techniques, including PCR, nucleic acid extraction, etc. The incumbent will need to keep detailed notes and present data at a weekly lab meeting. They will need to maintain, calibrate, and clean laboratory equipment, and communicate with collaborators and other personnel regularly.
Job Summary
Performs a variety of laboratory experiments and procedures. Prepares specimens. Oversees supply management. Operates and properly maintains equipment.
Essential Functions Perform and document routine laboratory procedures and experiments while maintaining equipment, ensuring safety compliance, and supporting accurate, reliable research operations.
Physical Effort Standing for extended periods, lifting and carrying equipment or supplies up to moderate weights, and performing repetitive hand and arm motions during laboratory procedures.
