Spanish Instructor
The Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for a full-time Instructor position. We are seeking an experienced, dynamic, and student-centered educator who excels at teaching Spanish language and culture at the elementary and intermediate levels and who is committed to inspiring and motivating students in their academic and linguistic development. Pending budgetary approval, the position will begin in Fall 2026 with an initial two-year contract, with the possibility of a renewal following satisfactory performance reviews.
Applicants must demonstrate the ability to teach Spanish language courses at all levels and have extensive experience teaching in a college or university setting. The successful candidate will show a strong commitment to fostering an inclusive, engaging learning environment and making a meaningful impact on students' academic experience. Familiarity with current foreign language pedagogical approaches (communicative, content-based, multiliteracies, and genre-based pedagogies) and instructional technologies is required. Experience organizing and participating in undergraduate events—such as workshops on language and cultural topics—that enhance student engagement beyond the classroom is preferred.
Candidates must have at least an MA in Spanish or in a closely related field and have native or near native proficiency in Spanish.
The usual teaching load is three courses per semester. Other duties may include participating in departmental and program-wide curricular development and serving on department committees.
Candidates should submit: a letter of application containing a description of academic background, teaching philosophy, current curriculum vitae; names and contact information for three professional references, and evidence of teaching effectiveness (e.g., a sample syllabus, student evaluations).
Questions can be directed to Prof. Dolores Lima at dlima@pitt.edu. For more information, see https://www.spanport.pitt.edu/about.
