As part of the Student Affairs Wellness team, Campus Recreation promotes the overall health and wellness of our entire community providing inclusive wellness, fitness, and recreation opportunities. The Campus Recreation team recently for opened a new 9-story, 270,000 square foot recreation and wellness center, the Aquatics Coordinator will directly contribute to and support the ongoing development and operation of the new facility. In this role, they will reflect the diverse needs, interests, and desires of the Pitt community through core responsibilities which include student staff leadership supervision, and development; aquatics facility operations and management; aquatics facility scheduling and event management and logistics; developing and leading aquatics and certifications programs; and managing and coordinating department-wide certification program for student and professional staff. This position works a varied on-campus schedule, an assortment of hours and days, to ensure a superior participant and student employee experience.
Job Summary
Creates and implements high-risk intramural, club, fitness, and recreation programs. Creates and implements facilities operations plans including staffing, facilities scheduling, and facility, FFE, and fitness equipment maintenance. Develops program or facility operational mapping to align with strategic plans. Develops policies and procedures guiding operations and continuous improvement efforts. Develops and implements risk management protocols and training to ensure safety. Manages marketing, social media outreach, and updates web site.
Essential Functions
Creates and implements aquatic facilities operations plans including staffing; facility, FFE, and aquatics equipment maintenance; facility and equipment cleanliness. Develops facility operational mapping as well as certification and aquatics programming to align with strategic plans. Develops policies and procedures guiding operations and continuous improvement efforts. Develops and implements risk management protocols and training to ensure safety. Physical Effort
Work includes both administrative office tasks as well as extensive work in high-use, participant-centric aquatic, fitness, and recreation facilities requiring routine mobility within the office, the aquatic facilities, and around campus. Routinely involves tasks that take place in the pool water (e.g., lifeguarding, moving lane lines, teaching classes), on the pool deck (e.g., lifeguarding, light duty cleaning, moving lane line reels, teaching classes), pool mechanical room (e.g., checking equipment readings), and pool chemical room. Must meet lifeguard, lifeguard instructor, CPR/AED instructor, and swim instructor physical requirements.

Additional details about Required Licensure/Certification: Master’s degree preferred, but not required. Experience can be substituted for degree. Minimum 3 years’ experience managing aquatics facility and/or coordinating aquatics programming preferably in collegiate recreation, community, or sports facilities. Require current Lifeguard certification and First Aid/ CPR/ AED certification. Preferred certifications: Lifeguard Instructor, First Aid/ CPR/ AED Instructor, Lifeguard Instructor Trainer, AFO or CPO, Water Safety Instructor.
