Job Description:

Under the direction of the Dean of the Extension School, the Continuing Education (CE) Instructor is responsible for conducting non-degree professional certificate programs, courses, and seminars for non-credit individuals and organizations through Roger Williams University's Extension School.

We seek a knowledgeable and dedicated instructor to teach in our DLT-approved Plumbing Apprenticeship Program. The instructor will deliver related training instruction (RTI) to apprentices working toward their Journeyperson Plumber license.

This part-time role is ideal for a licensed plumber who is passionate about mentoring and preparing the next generation of professionals in the plumbing trade.

  • Deliver engaging, high-quality instruction aligned with the Rhode Island Department of Labor & Training (DLT) apprenticeship standards.
  • Teach approximately 150 hours of related instruction over the academic year, plus additional preparation hours as needed.
  • Attend 3-5 administrative/program review meetings per year.
  • Provide students with instruction in both the theory and practical application of plumbing systems, safety standards, and trade practices.
  • Manage classroom dynamics effectively to ensure a professional, respectful, and safe learning environment.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, grades, and progress records in accordance with program policies.
  • Collaborate with program administrators to ensure curriculum compliance and student success.
  • Foster an inclusive and supportive classroom environment that accommodates diverse learning needs.




Job Requirements:
  • Journeyperson or Master Plumber license in Rhode Island and/or Massachusetts (required).
  • Minimum 5 years of field experience in the plumbing trade (preferred).
  • Prior teaching, training, or supervisory experience (strongly preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage classroom dynamics and engage adult learners.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to student success, workforce development, and professional ethics.
  • Ability to complete a 40-hour NCCER Craft Instructor Training (to be provided upon hire, if not yet completed).
  • Comfort using basic computer applications for attendance, grades, and communication?or a willingness to learn.

At the University's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be excepted where the candidate can demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the University, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
