Tennessee Donor Services (TDS) is looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic team member to join us to save lives!! Our mission at TDS is to save lives through organ donation and we want professionals on our team that will embrace this important work!! Tennessee Donor Services is seeking a board-certified Organ Recovery Surgeon to assist with the clinical, operational and research activities.

Key responsibilities this position will perform include:


  • Surgically recovers abdominal (liver, kidney, pancreas, and small bowel) organs for transplantation and research in donor hospitals throughout the service area.
  • Assumes on-call responsibilities as required to assure adequate coverage for donor activity and must be available to surgically recover organs at the specified time.
  • Supports compliance to CMS and UNOS regulations and AOPO standards and/or other medical/legal requirements.
  • Provides education and training to OPO staff and hospital personnel involved in the donation process.
  • Serves as an advisor between the organization and hospital staff when organ procurement is in progress.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate will have:


  • Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), board certified in general surgery with a current licensure
  • 5+ years of experience in organ recovery and transplantation, medical management of organ donors, and/or in critical care
  • Availability for weekdays and weekends of donor recovery call (number of call days to be determined)
  • Well-developed interpersonal communication skills necessary to interact with all management, supervisors, and staff. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office applications to include Word, PowerPoint and Excel is required.
