Manufacturing Engineer – CNC Metrology
Location: Nashville, TN
Company: NWI Nashville, LLC
Status: Full-time, on-site
Position Summary
This Manufacturing Engineer with have a focus specializing in CNC machining and in-process metrology to support precision part production. This role focuses on integrating on-machine measurement systems, particularly Hexagon solutions, to improve quality, reduce scrap, and enable real-time process control. This position will work at the intersection of machining, inspection, and data analysis, ensuring parts meet tight tolerances while optimizing cycle time and throughput. This will be a continuous improvement position to enable a data loop from machine results to NC programming to improve first pass yield of all parts.
Key Responsibilities
CNC Machining & Process Development
Develop, optimize, and validate on machine metrology process for milling operations
Collaborate with programmers, machinists, and Quality Engineers to integrate probing, laser scanning, and panametrics cycles into machining workflows
Improve machining processes using data-driven feedback from in-process measurements
In-Process Metrology (Primary Focus)
Implement and maintain on-machine probing systems using Hexagon AB technologies (e.g., probes, sensors, software)
Program and troubleshoot measurement routines using tools like PC-DMIS and machine-integrated probing cycles
Capture critical feature data during machining (dimensions, position, form, etc.)
Establish closed-loop machining processes using real-time measurement feedback
Inspection & Quality Assurance
Define inspection strategies for in-process and final verification
Interpret GD&T and ensure compliance with engineering drawings
Support root cause analysis for nonconformances using measurement data
Coordinate with quality teams to ensure alignment between CMM and on-machine inspection
Data & Continuous Improvement
Analyze measurement data trends to improve process capability (Cp, Cpk)
Develop dashboards or reports to monitor key quality metrics
Lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce variation and scrap
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
3+ years of CNC machining experience (milling preferred)
Hands-on experience with on-machine probing and metrology systems
Proficiency with PC-DMIS or similar metrology software
Strong understanding of GD&T and blueprint reading
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Hexagon AB metrology solutions (e.g., probing systems, CMM integration)
Familiarity with CAD/CAM tools (e.g., Catia, Siemens NX, Mastercam)
Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) and process capability analysis
Experience with deployment of on machine metrology solutions in an aerospace environment
Exposure to automation and Industry 4.0 concepts
