Job Summary

 

The Aircraft Structural Trainer is responsible for developing, delivering, and maintaining comprehensive training programs for Aircraft Structural Personnel. This role involves both classroom instruction and hands-on, practical shop training covering all aspects of aircraft structural repair, and fabrication. The ideal candidate will be an experienced structural technician with a passion for teaching and a thorough understanding of Customer Specifications, NWI Specification and any other applicable standard use to meet the requirements of our customers.  This role will also be responsible to maintaining accurate records of the on-line and manual training requirements of both salary and hourly work force.  This will include but not be limited to computer based annual business required training but also maintenance and updating of NWI skills matrix within the Aircraft assembly areas. 

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Mentors and coaches' junior technicians and trainees in best practices for aircraft structural build and repair.

  • Works with supervisors and management to determine specific training needs and assess skill gaps.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Program Development:

    • Design, develop, and revise training curricula, lesson plans, and materials for classroom and practical shop sessions.

    • Incorporate various training methods, including computer-based training (CBT), simulations, and job aids.

    • Manage skills NWI skills matrix documents and coordinate with supervisors to asses capability of Aircraft mechanics to determine cross training needs.

  • Instruction and Training:

    • Deliver technical training on a wide range of structural and process subjects, including:

      • Blueprint and technical manual interpretation.

      • Advanced sheet metal layout, forming, and repair techniques.

      • Fabrication and repair of composite and fiberglass components.

      • Corrosion control inspection and treatment.

      • Precision fastener installation and removal.

      • Specialized processes such as bonding and sealing.

      • Use of assembly jigs, fixtures, and alignment tools to locate and assemble parts

      • Aircraft structural assembly techniques for close tolerance holes, including drilling, reaming, countersinking, etc.

      • Special processes such as Anodize, Shot Peen, Heat Forming, Paint, etc.

  • Skills Assessment and Evaluation:

    • Create and administer practical and theoretical exams to assess trainee competence and comprehension.

    • Provide constructive feedback to trainees to ensure proper skill development.

    • Conduct ongoing evaluations of training program effectiveness and adapt content as needed.

  • Compliance and Documentation:

    • Ensure all training content and procedures comply with Customer Specifications, NWI Specifications, and any other regulatory or customer requirements. 

  • Equipment and Facility Management:

    • Prepare and maintain classrooms, shops, and training materials to ensure they are current and ready for use.

    • Ensure proper use of specialized tools, test equipment, and simulators.

  • Recurrent training administration:

    • Coordinate and schedule required periodic Environmental, Safety and Health training

    • Coordinate and schedule special process training and certifications

    • Coordinate with internal and external personnel to provide individual or group training classes as required

    • Maintain electronic files of training and certification records for all employees

    • Maintain computer-based training schedule tracker and listing of training by employee

    • Provide training records as required for internal and external audits (AS9100, NADCAP, Customer Audits, etc.)

    • Provide reports as required showing employees with expired training, training due by month, training expiring during current month, etc.

    • Research records files and employee training listings when requested
