Job Summary

This position, under direct supervision of the Project Engineers at multiple departments across the Port, is responsible for assisting in the planning and accomplishment of engineering, construction, and maintenance work for the Port; responsible for performing general administrative tasks.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist with Surveying and field measurements
  • Field data collection and inspections
  • Review of project elements, drawings, and documents
  • Prepare exhibits and correspondence
  • Assist in planning, design, and management of Construction Projects
  • Maintain a culture of environmental awareness
    • To include Environmental Management Programs, ISO 14001, and Green Marine Certifications
  • Provides clerical and minor administrative tasks
  • Establishes and maintains necessary office files
  • Adheres to Port Policy and maintains good employee relations
  • Complete assigned tasks and works required hours/shifts to fulfill Port objectives
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Additional Physical Factors:
While performing duties employee is regularly required to sit, speak or hear, use hand finger movements; occasionally required to stand, walk, reach stoop, kneel and lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Use of steel toe boots, safety glasses, hard-hat, high-vis vest required in field environments.

Environmental Factors:
General office environment/Field environment likely exposure to adverse weather conditions.

Minimum Qualifications:
This is a practicum position. Candidates shall be attending Texas A&M University-Kingsville (TAMUK) with a major in Civil, Environmental, Industrial or Mechanical Engineering; demonstrated written and oral proficiency in the English language; proficiency in Spanish preferred. Strong writing, editing and speaking skills, organizational and time management skills; ability to operate a personal computer and a variety of programs (AutoCAD, GIS, etc.). Must deal effectively with Port staff and varying levels of management.
