The Project Controls Specialist will support Commercial Projects in Houston, TX.
The Project Controls Specialist is responsible for supporting engineering and EPC projects through effective schedule control, cost estimating, risk tracking, and project performance reporting. This role works closely with project managers, engineering leads, and functional teams to ensure project plans are realistic, risks are visible, and execution is aligned with approved baselines. The position is hands-on and execution focused, with an emphasis on schedule integrity, forecasting accuracy, and actionable project insights.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Schedule Control and Planning
- Develop and maintain integrated project schedules using Microsoft Project.
- Establish schedule baselines and manage updates throughout the project lifecycle.
- Track progress against planned milestones and critical path activities.
- Identify schedule risks, float erosion, and potential recovery actions.
- Support scenario analysis and what-if planning.
- Project Estimating and Forecasting
- Support development of project estimates for engineering, procurement, and execution phases.
- Assist in preparing labor hour estimates, cost rollups, and funding forecasts.
- Track actuals versus estimates and identify variances.
- Support reforecasting activities based on project changes and performance trends.
- Risk Tracking and Management
- Develop and maintain project risk registers.
- Facilitate identification, assessment, and prioritization of schedule and cost risks.
- Track mitigation actions and risk status over time.
- Support qualitative and quantitative risk assessments as required.
- Project Controls Reporting
- Prepare regular project controls reports for internal and client stakeholders.
- Track key metrics such as schedule performance, forecast to complete, and milestone health.
- Support management reviews with clear, data driven insights.
- Ensure consistency in reporting formats and assumptions across projects.
- Cross Functional Coordination
- Work closely with project managers, engineering leads, procurement, and finance.
- Support alignment between schedules, estimates, and funding authorizations.
- Assist with change management tracking related to scope, schedule, and cost.
- Participate in project review meetings as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED:

- This position requires US Citizenship or Permanent Resident status due to the sensitivity of customer related information.
- Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or related field.
- Must have 3+ years of recent and related work experience in project controls, project management support, or EPC environments (comparable experience in other complex engineering environments will also be considered).
- In lieu of degree: Candidates with 7+ years of recent and related experience will be considered.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Project for schedule development and control.
- Experience with project estimating and forecasting.
- Experience developing and maintaining risk registers.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
DESIRED:
- Familiarity with earned value concepts and schedule performance metrics.
- Experience working in matrix or multi project environments.
- Exposure to procurement and subcontractor schedule integration.
- Advanced Excel skills for analysis and reporting.

WORK LOCATION:
- This position is located onsite; some travel may be required.
- Schedules are subject to change based on the requirements of the position and/or customer needs.
BACKGROUND INVESTIGATIONS REQUIRED:

STANDARD BASTION REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and TEAMS.

- Able to communicate effectively, verbally and in written form, with internal and external customers.
- Able to follow company programs, processes, procedures, practices, requirements, goals, and objectives.
- Must be organized with good time management skills and must be able to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
- Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task.
- Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time) and may require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time).
- Regular attendance in accordance with an established work schedule is critical.
