Position Summary
The CNC Saw Operator is responsible for programming, setting up, and operating CNC-controlled sawing equipment to accurately cut raw material to specified lengths and quantities per production work orders and engineering drawings. This role ensures consistent material preparation, dimensional accuracy, and efficient throughput while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and productivity.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Program, set up, and operate CNC band saws, cold saws, or automated saw systems
Interpret work orders, cut lists, shop travelers, and engineering drawings
Enter, edit, and verify CNC programs for accurate part length, quantity, and feed rates
Set material stops, clamps, and fixtures for repeatable, accurate cutting
Verify material type, size, heat lot, and traceability prior to cutting
Perform first-article inspections and in-process checks using precision measuring tools
Adjust feed rates, blade speed, and cutting parameters based on material type and size
Monitor blade condition and replace blades as required
Load and unload raw material using cranes, forklifts, or automated material handling systems
Label, stage, and organize cut material to support downstream machining operations
Maintain accurate production records and material usage logs
Perform routine preventive maintenance and troubleshooting of CNC saw equipment
Maintain a clean and organized workstation following 5S / 6S standards
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to safety, quality, cost, and delivery
Required Skills & Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
2–5 years experience operating CNC saws or automated cutting equipment in a manufacturing or machine shop environment
Experience programming CNC saw controllers (e.g., Kasto, Behringer, Amada, Marvel, Hem, Hyd-Mech, or similar systems)
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and material cut lists
Proficiency with precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, tape measures)
Strong understanding of cutting parameters for various alloys
Solid math skills, including decimals, fractions, and basic trigonometry
Forklift and overhead crane operation experience preferred
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand for extended periods
Lift and handle material up to 50 lbs
Frequent bending, reaching, and material handling
Ability to safely operate lifting devices
Work Environment
Manufacturing machine shop environment
Exposure to cutting fluids, metal chips, loud equipment, and heavy materials
PPE required: safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toe shoes, gloves
