Position Overview: The Engineering Program Manager will be a key operational and strategic leader responsible for supporting the development, growth, and daytoday execution of Exo's engineering business unit. This role combines vision-setting support, operational planning, project management oversight, customer engagement, and business process coordination. The ideal candidate is highly organized, a strong communicator, and capable of bridging strategic objectives with handson operational execution. They will ensure engineering work is delivered efficiently, customers are wellsupported, internal teams stay aligned, and the business unit operates with clarity, accountability, and discipline. Key Responsibilities:
  • Strategic Support & Business Unit Development
    • Partner with leadership to refine and help communicate the vision for the engineering business unit.
    • Assist in setting goals, objectives, and performance metrics.
    • Translate strategic priorities into actionable plans, workflows, and processes.
    • Identify operational gaps and implement improvements that enhance efficiency, quality, and customer satisfaction.
  • Operational Leadership & Project Management
    • Oversee daytoday project management across the engineering unit, ensuring work is properly scoped, scheduled, resourced, and executed.
    • Coordinate engineering workloads and resource allocation (“herding the engineers”) to maintain balanced capacity and predictable delivery.
    • Maintain project plans, timelines, dashboards, and operational cadences.
    • Monitor progress, risks, scope changes, and deliverables.
    • Standardize project management tools, templates, and processes.
  • Customer & Stakeholder Communication
    • Serve as a primary operational point of contact for customers within the business unit.
    • Manage communications around project updates, deliverables, risks, and expectations.
    • Ensure a professional, proactive experience throughout the project lifecycle.
    • Facilitate alignment between customers, business development, and engineering.
  • Business Development Coordination
    • Work closely with the business development team to support opportunity qualification, scoping, and proposal preparation.
    • Assist in translating customer needs into engineering requirements and project plans.
    • Support presales engagements and postsales handoffs.
  • Contracts, Scope & Financial Operations
    • Support contract review, setup, and execution for all projects within the business unit.
    • Manage scope, change requests, and contractual obligations throughout project execution.
    • Oversee invoicing accuracy and timeliness, ensuring clear communication with customers and internal finance.
    • Track budget adherence and contribute to forecasting, revenue tracking, and capacity planning.
  • Team & Culture Support
    • Help establish a collaborative, accountable, and highperformance culture within the engineering team.
    • Reinforce clarity in roles, workflows, priorities, and expectations.
    • Support continuous improvement and operational best practices across the unit.
Qualifications:
  • 5–10 years of experience in engineering operations, technical program management, project management, or business operations.
  • Demonstrated success managing engineering or technical project workflows.
  • Strong operational mindset with the ability to turn strategy into detailed execution plans.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working directly with customers and cross-functional teams.
  • Familiarity with contracts, budgeting, invoicing, and project financials preferred.
  • Prior experience in a fast-paced, growing, or entrepreneurial environment is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
  • Primarily sedentary work performed in an office and/or remote office environment, with extended periods of sitting, working at a computer, and participating in virtual or in-person meetings.
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, using a mouse, operating standard office equipment, and handling documents.
  • Ability to speak clearly and hear effectively to communicate with customers, engineers, leadership, and vendors in person, by phone, and via virtual platforms.
  • Occasional standing, walking, bending, and reaching while attending meetings, collaborating with team members, or accessing files and office equipment.
  • Ability to lift and carry light office materials (typically up to 15–25 pounds), such as laptops, documents, or presentation materials.
  • Visual acuity sufficient to read computer screens, technical documents, project schedules, contracts, and financial reports.
  • May require occasional travel to customer sites, meetings, or company locations, which may involve driving and navigating various office or jobsite environments.
Mental / Cognitive Requirements:
  • Ability to maintain sustained concentration while managing multiple concurrent projects, deadlines, and priorities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess operational issues, identify risks, evaluate options, and implement process improvements.
  • Capacity to interpret and synthesize technical, contractual, financial, and scheduling information to support sound business decisions.
  • High level of organizational and planning ability to structure workflows, coordinate resources, and track performance metrics.
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly and professionally to diverse audiences, including engineers, customers, executives, and business partners.
  • Sound judgment and decision-making skills, including the ability to escalate issues appropriately and manage competing stakeholder expectations.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, adapt to changing priorities, and respond to urgent business needs while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills necessary to facilitate collaboration, resolve conflicts, and support a positive team culture.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when handling sensitive business, customer, and employee information.
